Chapter 63 Have you decided to marry me?
After Claire died, there was no one left she could truly call family.
Tobias kept proving, tand tagain, what selfish calculation looked like-thinly veiled as fatherly concern.
Back at the law firm, Kaia and Warren stayed a little late.
They dug through the data, flagged a few legal risks, and sent Jude a quick email with the highlights.
Only then did they finally call it a day.
Around 7:30, Warren turned to her with an easy smile.
“Hey, Kaia. Wanna grab a bite downstairs? The diner’s still open.”
Kaia glanced at the flashing number on her phone screen, lips tightening.
“Thanks, but I've gotta pass,” she said politely.
Of course. That idiot nephew of Sally’s had already sold her out.

“Officer, I've said it a million times-I didn’t drug her!” Levi Martins pleaded, his voice cracking.
The cop held up a folder and slapped it onto the table.
“Then how do you explain this doctor's report? She's got bruises and traces of a powerful aphrodisiac in her
system. And you just happened to ‘accidentally’ barge into the women’s restroom?”
His eyes narrowed. “Are we dealing with sexual harassment here -or attempted rape?”
Levi's face drained of color. “No! No, it wasn’t rape-I swear! | didn’t touch her! The drugs weren't mine!”
The officer gave him a hard look. “What a coincidence, huh? No explanation? Then you’re not going anywhere.”
A little pressure-and Levi cracked.
“It wasn’t me! | swear! It was my aunt, okay? | didn’t know she’d
take it that far!”
Every word was being recorded. The surveillance camera blinked silently overhead.
Levi didn’t know that on the other side of the one-way mirror,
Lucien was watching.
He was cold, expressionless, his gaze locked on the man in the interrogation room.

Beside him, Vincent Wahlberg-Deputy Chief of Police-cleared his throat, trying to keep his voice steady.
“Mr. Graves, rest assured. The suspect has confessed. He conspired to drug the victim and intended to harass
her-maybe worse. He's going to face charges.”
Lucien didn’t blink. “Make sure this case is handled thoroughly, Chief Wahlberg. | don’t want anyone slipping
through the cracks.”
“Of course. Absolutely,” Vincent said quickly.
Without another word, Lucien turned and walked out, his polished shoes echoing down the hall.
Vincent exhaled and wiped the sweat from his brow. He hadn't expected a case like this-practically a routine
assault charge—to land on Lucien Graves’ radar.
And the timing couldn't have been worse. Someone from the Martins family had already sent him gifts-an
obvious bribe to keep things quiet.
But now?
Vincent had already called his wife and told her to return everything.
No way in hell was he gambling his career with Lucien watching.

When Tobias got hand heard that Sally had been taken away by the police, the news hit him like a slap to
the face.
“Dad, you've got to save Mom!” Kimberly cried, grabbing his
arm.
Tobias scowled. “Save her? She’s always pulling stupid stunts. If this gets out, our company’s going to take a
massive hit.”
Kimberly's eyes filled with tears. “But you can’t just leave her like this! Why don’t you talk to Kaia? She's the one
who called the cops. Levi got arrested because of her!”
“Enough with the crying.” Tobias waved her off. “I'll make a call.”
He rang up the Martins family. It didn’t take long to get the full story—they’d tried bribing Vincent, but all the
gifts had been sent back.
Tobias’s heart sank.
Returned gifts. That only meant one thing: the police were following the rules this time.
No favors. No shortcuts.
Gritting his teeth, he picked up his phone and sent Kaia a message. This time, the tone was very different—
almost desperate.
[Kaia, let's talk—just father and daughter. Don’t do anything rash. We can figure this out. I'll be at the office
tomorrow. Csee me, okay?]
Kaia looked at the message... and powered off her phone.
Yeah. It is time.

Landon grumbled as he set down his glass, “Lucien, seriously -what’s the deal? You dragout at this hour just
to drink in silence?”

Landon blinked. “What? Who the hell would even try chasing
you in the first place? One glare from you and they’d be running for their life.”
Then it clicked.
Lucien had made more than one exception for Kaia.
Landon sat up straighter. “Hold up-are you saying your nephew's fiancée was chasing you?”
That girl has guts. Really.
Lucien frowned slightly. “The engagement’s off.”

Landon smirked. “Alright. So your nephew's ex-fiancée is chasing you.”
That phrasing seemed to sit well with Lucien. His expression shifted, just a little.
“Yeah,” he said quietly.
Landon leaned in with a mischievous grin. “And letguess— she gave up halfway through?”
He let out a low chuckle. “Honestly?

A vein twitched in Lucien’s temple. He set his glass down with a heavy clink.
“Landon,” he said darkly, “are you trying to get punched?”
Before Landon could answer, Lucien’s phone started vibrating on the table.

“Kaia?”
Her voice cthrough the speaker, soft but steady.
“Lucien, are you free tomorrow at nine? | want to talk about the proposal you mentioned last time.”
