Chapter 60 That Promise Still Stands?
He shut his eyes, trying hard to keep it together and not yank her even closer. Finally, Paul pulled up to the
hospital entrance.
Landon had just sat down for clinic when the door slammed open with a loud bang. Jesus, who the hell now? He
looked up, clearly annoyed, and narrowed his eyes. “For God's sake, Lucien? You again?”
yep,
And he had someone in his arms, again. Landon glanced down and sneered, “Well damn, isn’t that the Domont
girl?”
“Cut the crap. She’s been drugged. Call a female doctor, now.”
Landon’s face twitched. “You do realize you're literally the cure. Why bring her here?”
Lucien’s eyes went stone cold. “You think I'm sdamn
animal?”
They used to tease Lucien now and then, but everyone knew if he got pissed, it never ended well.
Landon scratched his nose. “Alright, alright, chill. Just a joke.”
Lucien’s voice was flat. “It’s not funny.”

Landon got the message and backed off right away. “Fine, I'll get someone from ER.”
The female doctor arrived quickly and gave Kaia a full checkup. Her brows furrowed.
“She’s on a heavy dose. She bit her own tongue in a few places.”
She gently lifted the sheet. “And here-her thigh’s bruised. Looks like she grabbed herself hard to stay conscious.”
Behind the curtain, Lucien’s face grew darker with every word. His jaw clenched so tight it looked like he might
crack a tooth.
Landon felt the air around him go cold and shuffled a step away.

Now was not the tto joke.
“Ill start her on fluids. Are you family? Here's the payment slip. Go settle it up front.”
Landon opened his mouth to say “Skip it,” but Lucien had
already taken the slip with those pale, steady hands. “Yeah, I'm family. Thanks, doctor.”
Landon stood there frozen.
Damn. He is dead serious.

“Aunt Sally, she got away!”
“What? How the hell did that happen?” Sally barked.
“I followed her to the restroom, but then someone clockedfrom behind! When | cto, she was gone!”
Someone helped her escape?
“Was it a guy? Did you see him?” Sally pressed.
“No, Aunt Sally! | was clocked, remember?” her nephew grumbled.
Useless brat.
Sally muttered a curse under her breath.
“Whatever. Get back here. I'll take care of it.”
Kimberly leaned in and whispered, “Did Kaia run off?”
Sally’s voice was tight. “Yeah.”
This tthe plan had flopped. Kaia would be too vigilant to fall into any trap next time.

An hour later, Kaia finally cto, her body limp as wet noodles.
She rubbed her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Lucien, watching her with those deep eyes.
“Lucien?” she mumbled, still dazed.
He nodded, his voice soft. “Right here.”
Then it hit her-she’d been drugged by her stepmother, and Lucien had saved her.
“Thanks.”
Lucien gave a lopsided grin. He was about to tease her but stopped himself, remembering the way she'd cried.

“Any idea who set you up?”
Kaia stared at her lap, bangs shadowing her face. “Yeah, | know.”
“You wantto handle it?”
She shook her head. “Not this time.
I've got it. But Lande yaad’
erlier. ThaD Promise still stands?”
Lucien’s eyes narrowed, a slow smirk tugging at his lips. “Which one?”
“You said you'd do anything. That promise. Really? Anything?”
Lucien smiled, deep and sure, “I meant it. Anything.”
He leaned in, close enough to feel her breath. “Wanna say it
now?”
Kaia’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Yeah... | do.”
The look in her eyes made his chest tighten.
“But first, | need to ask you something,” she said.
Lucien raised an eyebrow. “Go ahead.”
Kaia swallowed nervously. “Are you still single?”
