Chapter 55 Stay Out of My Way

Kaia spoke little, offering only a polite smile to each guest who cto pay their respects.

Ever scheming, Sally seized a moment after a group of mourners left to pull Tobias into a quiet corner.

“What's happening with your mother’s 5% shares?” she whispered. “You're not seriously giving them to Kaia, are

you?”

Tobias hesitated, his voice low. “Let’s hold off on that for now. You saw her eyes. They're unsettling. I'm almost

scared to bring it up.”

They both knew how much Claire meant to Kaia.

“Fine,” Sally agreed. “But once your mother’s buried, we need to settle this quickly.”

Unbeknownst to them, a slender figure lingered in the shadows, letting out a soft, mocking laugh.

“Kimberly, Kaia’s kind of creepy,” one of the guests whispered. “Your grandma doted on her, didn’t she? How's

she not

shedding a single tear?”

Kimberly dabbed at her eyes with exaggerated care, her voice dripping with false pity. “Who knows? Maybe

Kaia’s got a heart

of steel. I could never be like her. When | heard about

Grandma's passing, | cried my eyes out. They are still swollen!”

“Kimberly, you're just too kind,” her friend said. “Speople are just cold to the core.”

Every word reached Kaia’s ears.

She turned to Kimberly, her voice calm but edged with ice. “Cwithfor a second.”

Kimberly froze under Kaia’s frosty stare, her bravado wavering. “W-what do you want?”

Kaia let out a derisive scoff. “Scared of me?”

“No way!” Kimberly snapped, her pride pushing her to follow Kaia to a secluded spot.

A flash of cold steel caught the light as Kaia produced a dagger from nowhere.

She pinned Kimberly's throat with one hand, the blade’s icy edge grazing her cheek, sliding slowly as Kaia's eyes

burned with a ferocity Kimberly had never seen.

Kimberly's head tilted back, her body rigid, her teeth chattering. “Kaia, have you lost your mind?” she gasped.

Her face had turned ghostly pale. One wrong move and that blade could scar her for life.

“Scared now?” Kaia's voice dropped to a chilling whisper. “Then stay out of my way. | don’t want to hear a single

word like that at my grandmother's funeral again...”

The blade drifted to Kimberly's throat, pausing as Kaia let out a cold sneer. “Next time, it won't just be a

warning.”

She sheathed the dagger and walked away without a backward glance, leaving Kimberly trembling on the

ground.

At that moment, Kimberly truly believed Kaia had gone mad.

She felt the fury in Kaia’s eyes, a fire that could have ended her.

Sobbing, Kimberly ran to Sally, her words tumbling out between gasps as she recounted the encounter.

“You're saying Kaia threatened you with a knife?”

Kimberly's tears streamed down her face. “Yes, Mom! | want to go home. | can’t stay here. What if she snaps and

actually kills me?”

Sally hadn't realized Claire's death would unravel Kaia to this

extent.

She handed Kimberly a tissue, her voice soothing. “Calm down, sweetheart. You can’t leave today. Important

guests are still arriving. | heard Lucien will be here.”

“Kaia’s just trying to scare you. She used to cry over a dead hamster. She's not a killer.”

Her tone softened. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Today, you've got a chance to make an impression on Mr. Graves. If

the Graves family only sees Kaia and not you, what's the point? You're the daughter your father and | cherish the

most. Don’t forget that.”

With Sally’s reassurance, Kimberly finally calmed down.

She gradually regained sconfidence, convincing herself that Kaia was merely bluffing with empty threats.

After all, Sally and Tobias had always had her back.

Kimberly took the tissue, gently wiping her tears. “Okay, Mom. Just keep an eye on Kaia for me.”

Sally patted her hand. “Don’t worry. Let's head back out.”

Allen attended Claire’s funeral, his heart heavy with memories.

He thought of the past.

Now Claire is gone too... She and Lydia can finally reunite, those

two best friends from their youth.

He placed a single rose on the casket, his gesture solemn.

Kaia nodded, her face a mask of calm.

Lucien arrived and saw her silent, composed demeanor, his chest tightening with unease.

He opened his mouth to say something, but with so many people around, the words wouldn't come.

Kaia noticed Kimberly trailing after Lucien and frowned slightly.

Worried she'd try something, Kaia quietly followed them.
