Chapter 43 I'll Always Be With You
Alden’s blood ran cold- what the hell is she doing here?
Kaia stumbled out of the taxi, clutching her throbbing shoulder. The pain was intense, radiating through her
entire arm as if the bone had shattered.
Her eyes fell on a couple huddled together a few yards away, and her heart froze in her chest.
They met again.
Alden saw her clutching her shoulder, and an instinctive urge to go to her flickered within him.
No matter what, Kaia wasn’t a stranger. In two days, she was supposed to be his wife.
Luna caught sight of Kaia, her eyes darkening with rage. Then, in an instant, her expression changed.
“Alden,” she whimpered, clutching his arm. “I... | feel faint. The blood... it’s too much.” She swayed against him.
Alden instantly turned, catching her. “Easy there, Luna! Are you okay?”
Luna smiled a bit, “I'm fine... Just a little scared. Alden... Was it
Kaia in that car?”
Alden pressed his lips. “Yeah. It was her. Forget about her for now. You're about to pass out. She's probably fine.”
Kaia watched as numbness spread through her body. Alden cradled Luna in his arms, his face soft with concern-
for her. Not once did he look back at Kaia.
A bitter laugh escaped her throat. So this was the man she’d almost married.
Two ambulances arrived with wailing sirens. Paramedics rushed out, quickly assessing the injured.
“Over here!” Alden called out urgently. “She needs immediate attention!”
Of the four paramedics, two went to Alden’s side. And the other two cto the taxi.
The paramedics quickly bandaged the taxi driver's head and helped him onto a stretcher.
“Miss, are you hurt anywhere?”
Kaia winced. “My shoulder... | think it might be broken.”
The paramedic quickly began to stabilize her arm.

Ironically, Alden and Luna seemed to have gotten off the
lightest.
Kaia stood frozen, watching as Alden rushed into the ambulance with Luna, treating her as if she were nothing
more than a
stranger in the crowd.
A nurse turned to Kaia. “Miss, let's get you in the ambulance. That shoulder might need surgery-we’ll need X-
rays to be
sure.”
Kaia nodded numbly, finally tearing her eyes away from the scene. She'd thought her heart couldn't get any
colder, but this- this had to be rock bottom.

“We'll need to put your arm in a cast,” the doctor explained. “Cback in forty-five days for removal, and
remember to keep it dry until then.”
Kaia, still dazed, just nodded. “Can | go hnow, Doctor?”
“Yes, there are no other major issues; just make sure to rest. It might be a bit painful for the first few days. When
you sleep, put a pillow under your shoulder. A bit higher, it will help with the swelling.”
Her arm was in a sling. She was holding her lab reports when she passed Luna’s room and heard crying from
inside.
“Oh, Alden, that was just so terrifying. | was so scared. My parents... You know they died in a car crash.”
Alden, seemingly heartbroken, soothed her gently. “There, there, it’s okay. You're not going to die, not while I'm
here. Ill always be with you. | won't let anything happen to you.
“If anyone dies, it'll bebefore you.”
Kaia’s stomach churned. She quickly walked past the room and headed for the elevator.
Their constant, cloying words made her want to puke.
Thank God. Thank God | am not marrying him.
She wouldn't have to listen to this crap for the rest of her life.
It was already eleven o'clock when she left the hospital. At this hour, Allen was probably asleep.
Kaia felt her phone vibrate in her pocket.
A message from Lucien was sent an hour ago.
[Did you make it to the Graves Manor?]
He's probably on a plane by now.
Alden finally got Luna settled and calmed down. Then, he headed to the ER nurses’ station to ask about Kaia.
“The patient in the pink dress? She left about an hour ago.”
“How severe were her injuries?” Alden asked, his frown deepening.
“Are you family? She had a fracture-nothing critical. We put her arm in a cast and she left shortly after.”
A fracture? It was much worse than Alden had thought.
He reached for his phone to call her, then stopped-right, she'd blocked him.

Luna stayed in the hospital overnight for observation and was discharged first thing in the morning.
“Alden, how's Kaia?”
Alden’s jaw was tight. “It’s fine. Just a fracture,” he said, his voice hard.

Luna lingered at the door. “Alden, want to cup for a bit?”
Alden hesitated. “No, I... | have to get to the office this morning.”
Luna's gaze dropped. Whatever she was thinking, she kept it hidden. “Okay, then,” she said softly.
After today, they were going to get married.
Although she knew Alden’s heart, there had been no news of them calling off the wedding.
Luna sneered internally.
Kaia is so damn useless. Looks like I'll have to give her another push.
She didn’t go upstairs. Instead, she hailed a cab and headed in the opposite direction from Alden.
