Chapter 324 Epilogue: Kayla and Calvin XIII

Bruno, now accustomed to being ordered around, resignedly gathered the information for Calvin.

“Here's the file. Brenda does love freeloading, but don’t worry -she doesn’t actually bully Kayla. Kayla’s

practically the family favorite. She wouldn't tolerate unfair treatment.”

Even so, Calvin couldn't help holding a grudge against Brenda -her tone with Kayla in the shop had been

downright rude.

A few days later, John found himself itching to return to Calvin's wine club, partly for the unfinished chess game.

Calvin spent most of his days at the club, so he wasn’t surprised when John showed up again.

“Sir Lewis, back to grace us with your presence?”

John signed up for a membership, and Calvin didn’t refuse. If he hadn’t charged him, John wouldn't have come

back.

“Let’s pick up where we left off. You didn’t destroy the board, did you?”

Calvin smiled, “I had it cleaned and stored. But | remember our game-letreset it for you.”

John had been slightly disappointed at first, but Calvin's response impressed him.

As they played, John asked, “Calvin, planning to stay here long-term? Not going back to the States?”

Calvin didn’t hide his intentions. “I'll be here for the next couple of years-at least until | win my girlfriend back.”

John was momentarily speechless.

His ex-girlfriend happens to be my granddaughter.

“Calvin, sometimes it’s better to move forward. The past isn’t always meant to be revisited.”

Calvin didn’t take the bait. “John, | think Kayla and | are a great match.”

John scoffed, “If that were true, you wouldn't have let her

down before!”

“I didn’t. But | saw Kayla’s aunt giving her a hard tat the shop the other day-trying to take clothes without

paying. Now that’s bullying.”

John’s ears perked up. “When was this?”

Calvin smiled, “Just a few days ago. Didn't Kayla mention it?”

Suddenly, John lost interest in chess.

After seeing John off, Calvin returned upstairs. When a staff member asked if the board should be put away, he

waved it off.

“Leave it. Resetting’s a hassle.”

John had barely stepped through the door when he spotted Brenda, decked out in jewels.

Seeing him, her smile dimmed. “John, you were out today too?”

John huffed, “What, are you the only one allowed to enjoy yourself?

“Brenda, you should set an example. Your wasteful habits have rubbed off on your sons. Remember that scandal

with that celebrity? Disgraceful!”

Brenda's two sons were playboys, the polar opposite of Mark.

Mark possessed, they lacked.

Brenda bristled. “They don’t have serious roles in the company. What else are they supposed to do?”

John snapped, “Nonsense! Are you complaining about the positions Ellen gave them?

“With their irresponsible attitudes, what could they handle? And Kayla isn’t even in the family business, yet she’s

not out gallivanting!

“Besides, Damien gives you more than enough allowance. Why were you trying to skip payment at Kayla’s

shop?”

Brenda's face flushed with anger. “Don’t listen to Kayla’s lies!”

“Enough. Kayla didn’t tell me! But mark my words-stay away from her shop. If | hear about this again, I'll have a

long talk with Damien about your spending.”

Brenda hadn't expected John to find out.

Fuming, she skipped dinner and waited for her husband at

their hotel suite.

When Damien Lewis finally returned, he massaged his temples at Brenda's tirade.

“Enough, Brenda. I'm swamped with the U.S. project plans 476

Brenda was stunned that Damien took Kayla's side.

She stormed off to the guest room, refusing to speak to him.

As for Damien, his last thought before bed was how to make it up to Kayla.

The next morning, Kayla noticed Brenda’s absence at breakfast.

A maid informed John, “Mrs. Brenda Lewis says she’s unwell and won't be joining.”

John shrugged. “Send the family doctor. Have her meals brought upstairs-keep them light.”

Damien smiled at Kayla. “I heard your
