"Where's Denver? Shouldn't your boyfriend be here at a tlike this?" Hadley remained silent. Calling Denver was out of the question, as he wasn't really her boyfriend. Eric's tone turned more demanding.
"Call Denver now. Get him over here." But a sense of unease crept through Hadley. She hesitated, reluctant to bother Denver, but Eric persisted.

"Fine." With Eric's intense stare locked on her, Hadley pulled her phone from her purse and dialed Denver's number. Denver answered almost immediately, his voice full of excitement.
"Hadley? It's great to hear from you." Denver's happiness was evident, even over the phone.

Worried that Eric might pick up on her formal tone, Hadley kept her gratitude brief-couples usually didn't bother with such formalities. After ending the call, Hadley turned to Eric.
"Denver is on his way." "Fine." Eric simply nodded before pulling out a cigarette, lighting it, and inhaling deeply as he waited.
Hadley was taken aback, expecting Eric to leave already.
Noticing her look, Eric exhaled a cloud of smoke.
"I'll leave once Denver gets here."
