Chapter 949 I Don't Think I'll Make It
"I don't think I'll make it. I’ve been lying in bed these past few days with fragments of the
past swirling in my mind. Your mother is among them, and I remember when I first met
her. I remember she was injured at the time as if she was running for her life. I felt
something was wrong, but she refused to tell me anything, and later, she suddenly
disappeared." Harvey sighed in regret and sorrow.
"Injured?" Jenny was surprised. That was new information.
"I'm telling you all this because I hope you won’t give up on finding her. I always felt that
something had happened to her, which is why she couldn't come to you.’
Although it was only his speculation, it was not impossible given the situation he had
observed.
Jenny understood him. Nodding, she said, 'Don't worry, she's my mother, and I will find
her."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe now had a different attitude toward the matter. Perhaps, she should be like her father
and do whatever it takes to find her. What if her mother had really been suffering all these
years?
Harvey didn't say anything more after that. Claiming he was a little tired, he asked Jenny
to go out and call all the Spade family members in.
Jenny did as she was told and sat on a long bench outside the ward, watching all the
Spade family members enter the room.
Soon after, she heard crying coming from inside the room. Regardless of how genuine the
cries were, Jenny knew one thing: Harvey had passed away.
When she raised her head, she saw Christopher walking out of the room, calmly making
arrangements. He seemed out of place among the other grieving family members.
However, Jenny knew he was sad but wouldn't show it. He refused to allow the other
Spades to see his vulnerable side.
Jenny stood up and walked over to him, unsure how to console him. In the end, all she
could say was, "My condolences."
"Don't worry, I'm fine." Christopher forced a smile.
He wasn't fine, of course. Even though he had been mentally prepared for this day, he
found that he wasn't as strong as he had imagined.
"Is there anything I can help with?” Jenny asked.
Christopher shook his head. "No, I can handle these people."
The Spades had long been completely under his control, and even if they wanted to cause
trouble, he wouldn't give them the opportunity.
Seeing him so confident, Jenny didn't say anything. "Okay then, I...I'll go back. Let me
know when Mr. Spade's funeral is."
"Okay, if you can come to send Grandpa off, he will be very happy," Christopher said to
her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJenny thought seeing Christopher doing well would probably be the only thing that would
truly make Harvey happy. But she kept her thoughts to herself. When she waved goodbye
and was about to leave, a pretty woman suddenly appeared in front of them.
"What happened to Grandpa, Christopher," she asked.
Although she didn't know what had happened yet, she heard the sound of crying coming
from the ward and began to tear up.
Christopher turned to her and said softly, "Go inside and have a look." Alexandra York was
taken aback, afraid because there was a dead person inside the room.
Christopher saw her hesitation and chuckled softly, "Grandpa has passed away. If there's
nothing else, you can go back.’
"I'll stay here with you," Alexandra said. Although afraid to go inside, she didn't want to
leave and knew she should stay by Christopher's side.
Christopher wanted to refuse, but Alexandra had already turned her attention to Jenny.
Looking at Jenny, she asked, ’Who is this?"
