She had an indescribable feeling in her heart. This was the only tin her life that he had stepped forward to

protect her.

Isolde couldn't hide. The enemy forces were fierce, and with the martial artists joining the battle, their morale

had surged. As the marshal, she was naturally a prtarget.

She wasn’t wearing armor, so at least her wounds would be easier to bandage.

She cut off part of her skirt and wrapped it around her worst wounds before picking up her whip and charging

forward again.

The martial artists were excited to see a woman fighting so fiercely. To them, these attackers were weak and

easy to defeat. Though Doug and Kolton were highly skilled, they were still outnumbered. No matter how strong

they were, two fists couldn't block dozens of attacks. The sheer number of enemies meant that even if they

couldn’t win in skill, they could simply wear them down over time.

Because of this, two or three fighters focused on attacking Isolde.

After adjusting herself, Isolde regained sof her strength and fought back.

But this was turning into a battle of endurance, and for Isolde, that was a major disadvantage.

High above, Kamari sat on the platform, watching the fight unfold. He was already planning what to do

next.

He was sure to win this battle. But then, he wondered what would cnext. It might be tto send out his

troops.

But now was certainly not the right time.

After a long moment of contemplation, he finally gave an order. “Bring Ms. Charlie here.”

Ashley was soon escorted up. Dressed in plain white robes, she stepped onto the wooden stairs, ascending

slowly until she reached the high platform.

She bowed humbly, keeping her gaze lowered. “Your Highness!”

Kamari glanced at her casually, then took her small hand, his face softening into a kindly smile. “Sit down.”

Ashley slowly withdrew her hand, casting a brief, indifferent glance at the battlefield below. A flicker of mockery

flashed in her eyes before quickly disappearing. “I wouldn't dare.”

Kamari patted the back of her hand. “Are you still holding a grudge against me?”

“I wouldn't dare,” Ashley replied, her expression calm and distant.

Her poised features carried a subtle, lingering coldness.

Kamari sighed softly. “I know | wronged you. You are a clever person. If only you were a man!”

Ashley remained silent, lowering her head.

Her hands hid inside her sleeves, fingers brushing against the cold dagger within.

Kamari’s voice stayed gentle. “Tell me, after this victory, should we attack or defend?”

Ashley slowly lifted her gaze. “King Kamari, have | ever asked you for anything?”

Kamari looked at her, his eyes turning cold. “I have already made a promise.”

He had said before that once things were settled, he would make her a consort.

Ashley smiled faintly and met his gaze. “A consort is still just a concubine. Do you think | would ever be satisfied

with that?”

If she had no achievements, she might accept such a position. But as someone who helped him rise, she would

never lower herself to be just a concubine.

She wanted to be the one who ruled beside him, which was the queen. That was only the first step.

Her true goal was to beclike the legendary Queen Dowager.

Kamari's eyes flashed with anger. “You know | already have a wife.”

Ashley looked at him calmly and said, “If you want to achieve great things, your wife must die. This is my only

condition. If you refuse, you can kill me, but | will never settle for less.”

Kamari stared at her sharply, rage surging in his heart.

He had never suspected that Ashley had hidden her ambition so well. He thought making her a consort was

already a great honor, yet she dared to refuse to be a mere concubine.

Now, she was demanding that he kill his own wife.

In the past, he would have ordered her execution without hesitation.

But after witnessing her incredible foresight, he knew she was the key to his victory.

Not even ten of his advisors could compare to Ashley.

Yet his wife had given birth to three children for him. They had been together since their youth, and she had

always been gentle and virtuous. He could never bear to do that.

“King Kamari, either killor kill your wife!” Ashley threw down a cold dagger. With a sharp clang, the blade hit

the ground.

Kamari stared at the dagger, its cold glint reflecting in his eyes. It turned out she had cprepared.

“King Kamari, you should know that without me, there will be no more gunpowder,” Ashley said with a cold

smile. “I am not a servant. | am your accomplice. You have no choice. Even if you kill Isolde today, who will come

next? Garrett? The Marquis of Eldermere? Harrison? The Marquis of Greystone? Any one of them would be

enough, and you wouldn't be able to stop them. The Royal Court has already decided to eliminate you. They

won't let you go. Without me, you will die.”

Instead of fueling his anger, her arrogant and fearless tone made Kamari’s fury slowly fade.

He calmed down. Matters of love and family had never been his priority.

Their years of marriage meant nothing compared to the weight of an empire.

At most, once the great undertaking was accomplished, he would grant her a posthumous title as queen, as a

tribute to the grace of bearing him three children.

With this thought, Kamari spoke in a deep voice, “Summon the princess consort.”

Ashley curled her lips into a smile and leaned against the railing, watching the battlefield below. Isolde had been

driven into a corner with nowhere left to run.

Just one decisive strike, her head would remain in the palace.

Sure enough, a figure in blue leaped forward, sword aimed straight at Isolde’s heart. She had no way to dodge.

She was already backed against the wall.

The sound of the blade piercing flesh rang out. Ashley watched as blood splattered into the air, blooming like a

sea of crimson camellias.

She felt a twinge of regret. The one who had fallen was not Isolde.

Before her, Geoffrey slowly collapsed.

At the moment the blade pierced him, his own sword had also plunged into the chest of his attacker.

He had protected his daughter, the child he and Prunella had left behind.

Doug, Kolton, Harlan, and Anthony saw what had happened and immediately leaped forward, shielding him from

the relentless onslaught of the blue-clad assassins.

Isolde could only see blood everywhere. Her mind went blank as she watched him slowly sink into the growing

pool of blood.

She dropped to her knees, reaching out in a panic to grasp the sword lodged in his chest. Blood spilled from the

blade, warm and thick against her fingers. Frantically, she pressed her hands over the wound, her voice

trembling and breaking. “It’s okay. It's okay. Don’t worry, it’s nothing. You'll be fine. You'll be just fine.”

Geoffrey's head hung heavily, pain radiating from his chest. He wasn’t sure if it was the wound that hurt more or

the ache in his heart. Watching her so flustered and helpless beside him, he wanted to reach out to touch her

face just once.

And then he realized he had never held her, not even once. He had never even truly looked at her.

She really looked like Prunella, uncannily so.

“I'm sorry,” he rasped, his voice hoarse. The air was thick with the scent of blood, and the sounds of battle

echoed in his ears. Sixteen years of father and daughter tied together by fate, and only now, at this moment,

could he truly look at her and utter an apology from the depths of his heart.

Isolde shook her head wildly, tears crawling down her cheeks, though she didn’t even feel them. She wasn’t

overwhelmed by sorrow or grief, she was rejecting this, rejecting this way of parting. She had sworn never to

acknowledge him. She refused to let things end like this. “Don’t you dare think you can atone like this!” Her

voice trembled with fury and desperation. “I don’t accept it! | don’t want you dying for me! We were never at

that point. Never!”

Frantically, she fumbled in her sleeve pocket, pulling out several small bottles of medicine. Her hands trembled

as she picked through them, searching for the “Consumption Pills“, the one thing that could save him. But there

were none.
