Chapter 162

Aiden finally exhaled a sigh of relief.

“But I'm not a member of the Dalton family, so | can’t join the company, which | understand. But this lady is also

not a Dalton, so why is she allowed to own shares in the Dalton Group?” Hailey raised an eyebrow, her voice

laced with curiosity.

She couldn't help but admire Mattie’s cunning. After over two years with Aiden, a man notorious for being tight-

fisted, Mattie had somehow managed to get shares in the Dalton Group.

Even Rose, who had devoted herself to Aiden for years, had only been given the title of Mrs. Dalton-and no real

power in the company.

If Rose found out, Hailey knew she'd likely explode with rage.

Aiden’s face shifted slightly. He stared at Hailey, his eyes narrowing. He hadn't expected her to know this.

Hailey remained unfazed, calmly sipping her coffee, her face serene, betraying no emotion.

Beside them, Thomas, in his fury, swung his cane at Aiden’s leg.

“You... ungrateful son!” Thomas hissed, his voice trembling with anger. “How dare you give shares of the Dalton

family to an outsider?!”

“Dad, listen to me!” Aiden’s face drained of color as he quickly dodged the strike.

Father and son clashed violently, voices raised, as their argument escalated.

Thomas, though old and frail, still had enough strength to be furious. His face turned ashen with rage. Though he

might have wanted to hit Aiden with the cane, the effort was more a thought than an action-his hands were too

shaky to strike.

Hailey glanced calmly at Mattie, who sat quietly beside her, her demeanor gentle and composed.

Hailey hadn’t known this information until just moments ago.

A photo had arrived on her phone, a stock transfer agreement sent by Mattie herself.

Mattie seemed to sense Hailey’s gaze. She looked up briefly, offering Hailey a small smile, before lowering her

head and absentmindedly touching her belly.

The father and son continued their heated argument, but eventually, Thomas, exhausted, leaned on his cane, his

face a mask of rage as he stood still.

Aiden’s expression was equally grim.

Finally, Mattie stood up, her voice gentle and soothing. “Don’t blAiden. | really do love him, and Aiden also

has a responsibility to Rose. He can’t divorce her, so he gavethe shares as compensation. If you mind, I'll

give them back. All | want is to have Aiden’s child in peace.”

Thomas's face darkened even further. He had always been a traditional man, and he could hardly believe that

his son had becsuch a disgrace. It was enough to make his head spin.

He felt as though he might die from the stress.

After a long moment of contemplation, Thomas, leaning on his cane, spoke again, his voice low but firm. “How

much of the company did you give her?”

“Five percent,” Aiden replied.

Chapter 162

Aiden held twenty percent of the shares in the company, making him the second-largest shareholder after

Kenneth. To think he had given away five percent-this was unexpected.

Thomas let out a bitter laugh. He nodded slowly. “Alright. You gave this woman five percent. Then, you'll give

Rose five percent, and Hailey five percent as well. Do you agree?”

Aiden’s eyes widened. “Why?”

“Why?” Thomas scoffed, his voice dripping with disdain. “Rose is your wife. She's cared for you all these years,

not to mention the hardships she’s endured. And as for Hailey... you know the reason.”

Thomas knew exactly what his son had done. The car accident, for example. Aiden had orchestrated it to get his

hands on Valerie's assets, hiring someone to crash into her car during the divorce.

Though the second crash wasn’t the cause of death, it was still an immoral act.

Aiden gritted his teeth in frustration. He didn’t have much of the company left, and if he gave away more, he

would only have five percent remaining. That would leave him with even less power in the company.

Thomas's voice was a command now. “If you don’t do this, then get out of the Dalton family.”

“Dad, calm down. We can talk about this,” Aiden said, forcing a smile, trying to appease him.

“One word. Yes or no?” Thomas demanded.

Aiden’s face twisted with anger, and he realized he was on the verge of losing it.

“If you don’t give it, get out of the Dalton family!” Thomas's voice was final, leaving no room for argument.

At the end of the day, Thomas still ruled the Dalton family. Kenneth listened to him. If he angered the old man...

Aiden reluctantly agreed. “Fine. I'll give it. Of course, I'll give it. | always listen to Dad.”

Thomas's expression softened just slightly, and he nodded to the butler, who immediately called Kenneth.

Then, Thomas turned his gaze to Hailey. She sat there quietly, the picture of calm composure, as if she were

untouched by the unfolding.

A deep sigh escaped Thomas's chest.

He felt immense guilt toward Hailey, but all he could offer her was the five percent of shares. Anything more was

out of his reach.

In the end, the Dalton Group, with all its power, was more important than his guilt toward Hailey.

People were selfish, especially when it cto matters of power.

With Thomas's insistence, Hailey finally beca new shareholder in Dalton Entertainment.

The next day, the shareholders’ meeting took place.

The night before, Hailey had been asked out.

The one who invited her was Mattie.

They met at a café.

It was three in the afternoon, bathed in warm sunlight.

Chapter 162

Hailey arrived on time.

Mattie wore a light-colored dress, metallic earrings catching the light. Stylish. Stunning. Even with her pregnant

belly, she was in heels, makeup flawless, as if the thought of harming the baby never even crossed her mind.

Hailey took a seat across from her. Mattie greeted her with a smile, her voice laced with familiarity. “It’s been a

long time. When | met you two years ago, | knew you weren't ordinary. Later, when | heard about your...

troubles, | felt a bit sorry. But seeing you again? I'm genuinely happy.”

Hailey stirred her coffee, then looked up. “Ms. Mason,” she said coolly, “I want to ask-what exactly is the grudge

between you and Aiden?”

The smile on Mattie’s face wavered slightly. She took a slow sip of her coffee before speaking. “Ten years ago, |

was thirteen. Back then, | was the little heiress of Mason Pharm. Our family ran a modest company-nothing too

grand, but we lived comfortably.

“I was my parents’ precious daughter, growing up without a single worry. That year, my parents won a business

bid against Aiden. He had been unprepared. And he never forgot it. He crushed my parents’ company overnight.

“We lost everything. My mother’s hair turned white in a single night. She fell gravely ill and passed away soon

after. That very snight, my father couldn’t take it-he jumped. Just like that, my family of three beca

family of one. All my happiness ended that summer. Aiden-his nhas been carved into my soul ever since.”

A shadow of hatred flickered across Mattie’s beautiful face.
