Chapter 685:
A beat of hesitation from Gordon, and then he gave a resigned, “Alright.”
A crackle later, Kellan’s deep voice cthrough. “Allison, what's going on? Did anything happen?”
“Situation’s worse than we expected. | need you to helpout,” she replied.
“Of course. Tellwhat you need.”
“The problem is, if | search for Lilian, I'll trip every security measure they've got on the first basement level. |
need you to create a diversion — enough to draw the guards’ attention away so | can get out clean.”
Kellan’s silence was heavy, thoughtful. “I can manage that. But Allison, you'll still be in danger. What if we swap
places?”
Allison drew in a steadying breath. “We're out of time. We need to act now and hit them hard, but | can’t do this
without you on board.”
Kellan paused for a moment, choosing his words carefully. “I see,” he finally said. “But you have to promise me
one thing: make it out in one piece. Your safety comes first.”

“I promise,” Allison assured him, though she knew deep down the risks she was taking. The opportunity today
was just too perfect to let slip away.
Moments later, she emerged from the cramped space.
“We can start now,” she signaled.
“Got it,” Gordon responded, fingers flying across the keyboard as he hit ‘Enter.’
Instantly, the screens in the first basement’s lab flickered wildly, as if a virus had ripped through the system.
The data tables turned into a chaotic mess, numbers scrambling and lines twisting like distorted webs.
Most of the senior researchers were currently observing test subject 75 with Verruckt, leaving only a handful of
junior staff to keep an eye on the computer screens.
When they noticed the sudden malfunction, their eyes widened in disbelief. They blinked and rubbed their eyes,
but the glitch persisted.
Realizing it wasn’t a vision problem, they immediately shouted, snapping everyone out of their tasks, “Alert! The
system’s been compromised!”
