Chapter 298: Changing Situation

Tracy's words left a sour taste in everyone's mouth.

However, there was work that was supposed to be done. Inez watched as Killian commanded Finn to take her,

Tracy, back to the lodge before he rushed to the main lodge and called all the enforcers. Inez wanted to follow

him, but she soon realised that there was nothing she could do to help him.

"You don’t need to feel guilty about it; you can’t do anything in this situation," said Tracy. Inez thought that the

woman sounded more and more like a devil's temptation because, for a second, Inez truly wanted to believe that

there was absolutely nothing that she could do for Killian, and she didn’t need to feel sorry about being cooped

up in the lodge.

But thankfully, she still had ssense of rationality left within her.

"How can | not feel guilty when he is doing all the work and | am just sitting around doing nothing?" Inez opened

her arms and motioned them around. Accepting Killian meant accepting the pack, and now that the pack was in

danger — most probably due to him — she just couldn't sit still.

Something flickered in Tracy's eyes, and just like before, they turned stormy; there were zaps of electricity within

them. It was exactly like she had seen the last time, but Inez knew that this was not the tto question her

ability to make her eyes thunderous. She was more worried about Killian and the death of the shifter. If he were

one of the enforcers who went on a mission or went missing after getting kidnapped at the borders of the land,

Inez wondered how Killian would react.

He was the alpha of this pack and took his responsibility quite seriously; he naturally wouldn't be happy if

someone else died right under his nose.

"Shifters are going missing all over the packs and territories," remarked Tracy as she made her way to the

kitchen. With a flick of her hand, she started the coffee machine and pulled open the cabinets before finding the

bag of beef jerky that Inez had set aside. "It's just not this territory if that is what you are feeling guilty about.

a whirlpool of guilt and concern."

Inez raised her head and exclaimed, "Since when did shifters start going missing?" Why didn’t she know

anything about these disappearances?

"| bet you are thinking why you didn’t know anything about these disappearances, aren’t you?" Tracy remarked,

seeing right through her. Sighing, she ran her hand through her hair. "There is no need to think about it too

much; you are not the only one who doesn’t know anything about the kidnapping of the shifters. With the council

trying to keep these disappearances a secret, it's rare for anyone to know just what is going on outside."

There was a soft ding, and Tracy turned to look at the coffee machine. realising that the mug was almost filled,

she walked over and replaced the mug of latte before whipping her head around and questioning, "What do you

want? A latte or a mug of black coffee, like the soul of your mate."

"A latte will be fine," Inez replied, her brows were still furrowed, and she looked a bit—no, a lot worried. The

disappearances of the shifters and the silence of the council didn’t seem like a good combination.

Silence fell over the entire lodge, with just the whirring of the coffee machine echoing.

"It feels wrong," finally, Inez spoke up. She twiddled with her thumbs and didn’t even look up when Tracy set

down the cup of coffee. "I mean, people are dying. Should they not be a bit more considerate?" She finally raised

her head and looked at Tracy, who smiled at her. However, there was a note of derisiveness in her smile as she

said to Inez, "You are kind and way too naive, Inez. People in power don’t usually care for the lives of those who

do serve any purpose for them, you know? Even gods are the same. If you don’t serve them any purpose, even

the gods won't remember you."

She placed a hand on Inez’s forehead, then with a soft voice she stated, "You shouldn't think too much, you

know. It's not good." With the other, her hand over her heart, she frowned hard. "Your powers are still not stable

enough, and with your emotions running high, they are turning even more chaotic."

"But why not?" Inez asked as she got up from the couch just as Tracy sat down. "You know something, don’t you?
