Chapter 274: Chimpanzees and Doors "I do know that," he muttered through clenched teeth. If he didn't know this, then why would he bother chasing after her? Do you really now? I don't see you trying to imprint on her.

Killian clenched his hands and slowly forced them to relax. Though the effort alone felt like he was trying to force open a vacuum chamber. It wasn't that he wasn't trying to imprint on her; however, each the tried to imprint on Inez, something held him back. It was not her fault; he knew that. It was all him, and he was trying to work on those thoughts of her.

You keep doing that, and she will soon get tired of you dragging your shit.

Shut up.

Killian closed his eyes and then tried to suppress the rage that was burning within his heart; he knew that if he tried to approach Inez like this, it would only make her drift further from him.

Though he didn't imprint on her, he had done things to prove that he truly adored and desired her. He had given her a place in the pack, allowing her to beca member of his territory, even though he didn't hand this chance over to just about anybody. He hadn't even tried to kill her ex-mate, who was the very reason he couldn't start imprinting on Inez. He had tried to make changes in his life, all because of her.

It should be enough to prove that she could stay by his side without any worries.

He raised his head and then looked at the door in front of him. A part of him wanted to force his way into the lodge barbarically, but he didn't. He had long lost that impulsiveness.

His beast snorted inside of him, and Killian didn't blhim. He had indeed lost the impulsiveness, but something about Inez kept him on his toes. Even now, he wanted to kick the door open and haul the witch out by her hair for daring to meet with Inez when she was alone. That witch didn't take him seriously, and he didn't like that. If not for all the gentlemanly virtues that he had collected over the years, he would have followed his instincts to assert his dominance.

Quite a hard job, isn't it? His beast took a jibe at him, which he ignored. With his jaw clenched and fury drumming in every vein of his body, he climbed up the porch and then knocked on the door. He knocked four times, each one crisp and distinct, letting the witch inside know that he meant business and she better get lost before he got down to it. The sound echoed in the silence of the evening, and it was way too silent, like no one was inside. That witch better not pull anything.

After five seconds, he finally heard the sound of shuffling as if ssort of silencing charm had lifted up from the surroundings. That witch! His beast sighed. Hey. I am not happy about this either, but can you calm down a little? It's not good to think about pouncing on the saviour of your beloved. Be a bit more charismatic than that.

Which was exactly why he was knocking on the damn door instead of confronting the witch who tried to lock Inez up inside the lodge as if she had the right to do it. She didn't. Inez was like a child who didn't know much about the shifter world, all courtesy of her mother, who had kept her away from her kind to make sure that no one would trespass on Inez's secret identity.

Whether she had done it to protect Inez or it was truly because the woman found Inez a stain on her name, Killian didn't know anything about it. But whatever her reasons were, he sure as hell didn't appreciate them because that made Inez a bit too trusting of people who didn't deserve her.

Like you.

Like him.

** Inez stared at the woman who had taken over her lodge. She didn't know when she allowed Tracy to take over, but the woman seemed to have made herself at home. The lodge that was supposed to be hers now belonged to the witch in front of her. Don't ask her how. She was not the one making the rules up here.

Tracy was standing in front of the door, her arms crossed as if she could see who was knocking on the door, and the scowl on her face showed that she was not happy with whoever was standing outside. And Inez had a very good idea who it was.

"Are... Are you not going to open the door?" She asked when another rumbling knock that should have left the door cracking echoed in the door lodge. Inez winced; even though Killian was on the other side of the door, his incessant knocking alone was enough to tell her how furious he was at the moment.

"Let him be for a minute," replied Tracy as she leaned against the shoe cabsitting at the threshold. "He needs to learn a bit of patience. I really hate it when Lycans lose their tempers; they have always been strutting around as if they were royals." "But they were." "Oh, hush now, child. Don't remindof the horrid past."

She spoke as if she had been around since the royal family of the Lycans ruled the shifter world. Because om honestly, the woman did look rather pissed off. Like she knew how the royal ancestors of the man outside behaved. But how could that be possible? The last lycan king died like five hundred years ago. At least that was what she learnt in history. And Tracy, well, she didn't look a day older than twenty.

Another rattling knock echoed through the lodge, and yet the woman stayed put. She didn't even flinch and instead scowled even harder. Well, that level of courage did look like it was cultivated for aeons.
