Chapter 41 Encounter a Local Bully
He leaned back, casually saying, "Did you used to chere often for pasta soup? You seem very familiar with
the owner."
Myrna was eating the noodles she had been craving, in a good mood, and replied without lifting her head, "Not
often, | cto eat a bowl when | have time. Monica used to work for the Stark family, but she set up this stall
after she quit."
"The vegetables and meat in her hwere the freshest picked from the market every morning, thoroughly
cleaned and skewered. They were more sanitary than the food in nearby restaurants."
For the first time, Calvin heard her talk about her foster parents' home, his eyes deep and about to speak.
Suddenly, the girl sitting across from him furrowed her brows, put ..down her fork, and tightened her jaw, saying,
"You eat first, | need to
step out for a bit!"
Saying so, she rose and walked towards the direction of the tricycle.

Calvin turned around only to see a few scruffy-looking young men in torn jeans, huddled in front of a tricycle,
picking and choosing from the neatly arranged vegetables in the basket...
"Didn't | just give you 200 dollars the day before yesterday? Have you spent it all again?" From a distance, Myrna
heard Monica's voice, full of heartache and helplessness.
Among a group of unruly youths, there was a boy clearly going through puberty, who replied impatiently in a
husky voice, "That money was used up a long tago, Mom, can you givesChapter 41 Encounter a

more?"
"No!" Monica slapped away his hand that was trying to snatch the wallet, protecting it as she said, "This money
is for your father's hospital bills, it can't be used!"
The young man with the duck-like voice withdrew his hand, gritting his teeth, a flicker of hesitation passing
through his eyes.
His companion immediately jeered at him, "Oh, Adrian, how old are you and still not weaned? Still asking your
mom for money, and too scared to take it if she doesn't give it to you." "Shut up!" you said.
The group of delinquent youths were not afraid of him at all, they continued to mock him: "If it were me, |
wouldn't care whether that old woman gives it or not, | would just take it. After all, it's your own family's money.
Your family's stall business is so good, do you really lack this little money? Your dad has been in the hospital for
over a year, why waste money? If you ask me, just let him die and be done "with it. It would also save money,
and he would be relieved...damn...what are you doing!"
The boy with the duck-like voice suddenly lunged forward, as if possessed, and threw two punches at the face of
the man who was speaking.
"| told you to shut up! Shut up!"
Upon seeing the audacity of the little ponytail guy who had been following them to actually make a move, the
other few people spat out saliva, rubbed their fists and palms together, ready to surround him.
The middle-aged woman had never seen such a scene before. She had lived a simple and honest life all her life.
Now, she was watching her son fighting with the young men from the society. Ignoring her 1037

damaged stall, she was on the verge of tears and was about to rush up.
"Stop fighting, you guys stop fighting."
"Stinky old hag, get lost!"
Before she could even get close, a young man from the community fiercely shook off her hand, threatening to hit
her.
Monica was scared out of her wits, seeing a fist as big as a bowl about to land on her face. A slender hand
reached out, grabbed the man's fist, and also supported her.
"Didn't the trash stay properly in the dump? Has it run out and beca spirit?"
She froze, turning her face, staring blankly at Myrna's clean, porcelain- white, oval face. She was so shocked that
she stammered, "M-Mya?"
"Where did this little girl cfrom! Get lost quickly, or believe it or not, I'll beat you too!" The man whose hand
was caught by Myrna was shouting.
She snapped back to reality, anxiously pushing Myrna away, hurriedly saying, "Mya, don't worry about me, just
go away. They're all local thugs, don't mess with them."
