Tate was skinny, while Lyle was chubby. Thus, Tate was struggling to move Lyle's body.
In the end, he had no choice but to leave Lyle's body aside while he went to get a lifeboat.
Jonathan and Dante followed behind him.
Although Tate was furious, there was nothing he could do about this as he wasn't as strong as Jonathan. There was no way he could defeat the latter in a fight.
The lifeboats were tied at one end of the boat. When in danger, one would only need to activate the cable pulley to lower the lifeboat to the sea.
Tate knew the ship well and quickly found the lifeboats.
He then brought Lyle's body over and placed it into the lifeboat. After getting into the lifeboat, he yelled, “Don't follow me!” Pointing at the other corner, he told them, “There are many other lifeboats. We shall go on separate ways.” There was nothing Jonathan and Dante could say to that.
They were about to leave the haunted Liberty soon, so it was only natural to go on their separate ways.
No one knew what was lying in wait for them in the vast ocean.
Suddenly, a loud gunshot echoed in the air.
Tate was about to get into the lifeboat when the gunshot was fired. The bullet flew straight into his forehead, and he died on the spot.
Shocked, Jonathan finally spotted the person who fired the shot.
The person was twenty meters away in his northeast direction.
There was no time to ponder over it, so Jonathan instantly went after the person.
He wanted to get to the bottom of things.
The person who fired the shot was pretty accurate, and he was hiding inside the room.
Jonathan smashed the glass wall down and barged into the room. Inside, he saw a black figure escaping into the theater.
Without hesitation, Jonathan followed the figure into the theater.
The person who fired the shot was as quick as lightning, so Jonathan lost sight of him in the theater.
He tried sensing where the person was but to no avail.
A helpless feeling rose in his heart.
Slowly, Jonathan grew frustrated but he quickly tamped it down. | won't fall for the trick easily! Soon, another gunshot was fired on the corridor.
Jonathan gasped in shock, for he remembered Dante was there.
At once, he rushed to the corridor.
A black figure was seen hauling Tate and Dante's bodies up before running toward the other end of the corridor.
Clearly, Dante was dead.
Jonathan spotted a pool of blood on the ground.
He quickly went after the person.
The black figure had two bodies with him, so he wasn't as fast as before. Jonathan picked up speed to catch up with the man.
The black figure finally came to a stop at the afterdeck on another level. It was the employee's rest area, so no one would go there.
“Who are you?” Jonathan questioned sternly.
The black figure was standing with his back to Jonathan as he tossed the bodies on the deck.
In the next second, Jonathan got the shock of his life when he turned to look at the deck which was full of bodies.
To be exact, there was a mountain of dead bodies being devoured by black guillemots.
Jonathan wasn't afraid of bodies as he was used to seeing them.
However, these bodies were all Tate and Dante.
Jonathan backed away instinctively at the unusual sight.
At the same time, the black figure spun on his heels, and Jonathan could finally take a good look at him.
To his astonishment, the black figure looked exactly like him.
In disbelief, Jonathan asked in a trembling voice, “What is going on? Who are you?” The black figure's voice was bitter. “Don't you understand? ‘You are me, and | am you.” “Why is this happening?” Jonathan urged.
The black figure asked, “Didn't you listen to the story Briana told you?” Jonathan was confused. “What story?” The black figure explained, “Briana said we offended Orcus and have to be punished for our sins. We need to keep stacking stones on top of a mountain. Once
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtwe manage to stack ten thousand stones, all stones are to be pushed down the mountain, and we will have to continue stacking the stones on top of the mountain again and again. That is Orcus' punishment to us.” He paused before adding, “The number of bodies here shows how many times we've encountered the time loop.
Each time loop will end only if everyone on the ship dies.
The new time loop will begin after you kill me. After this, you'll see a new boat heading this way with another Jonathan, Tate, Lyle, and Dante. Just like me, you'll have to kill them all and bring the new Jonathan here to tell him the truth.” Jonathan protested, “I don't get it. Why do we have to kill each other? We can take the lifeboat and escape.” The black figure answered, “If we get onto the lifeboat, we will be stuck on the sea forever. However, if you kill me, | will be free from this time loop. | want to know what will happen next if | die or escape from this time loop. | want to make things clear. That is the conclusion of our previous selves after countless experiments.”
Anguish flashed across Jonathan's eyes as he asked, “Does Orcus really exist in this world?” “I don't know,” the black figure replied truthfully. “There is no time for us to talk nonsense. Take action now, for | need to leave and find out what happens next.” Jonathan shook his head. “I won't kill you. We know this is a time loop, so why are we allowing Orcus to watch us make a fool of ourselves? I'd rather stay in this time loop forever.” The black figure shrugged and replied, “All right, then. That was what | told my previous self, but he chose to Kill himself and jumped into the sea. Looks like nothing will change in this current time loop.” With that said, he went to the railing and raised his gun to shoot himself in the head.
Bang! The black figure fell into the sea along with his gun.
Jonathan felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end as realization dawned upon him.
The time loop would come to an end when everyone from the previous batch died.
If the black figure remained alive, the time loop wouldn't end, and the next batch of people wouldn't show up.
The black figure thought that he wouldn't die for real as he had to experience the time loop again. Thus, he wanted to see if he could return to a specific time and end the time loop once and for all.
Jonathan took a deep breath, knowing that he was encountering something unbelievable.
| must be vigilant.
He then went to the corridor inside and walked past many bedrooms to enter a restroom.
There were many restrooms on the ship, but Jonathan only went to one of them.
In the mirror above the sink, he saw a sentence written in blood: Time loop is the only way to solve the current problem.
It was Jonathan's handwriting, so he guessed it was his previous self who wrote this down as a reminder for his later self.
After relieving himself, he walked out to see a drawer beneath the sink. The drawer was ajar, so he pulled it open to see a gun and bullets inside.
He took the gun and loaded the bullets.
It was then that Jonathan understood where his previous self found the gun.
What if | toss the gun away? What if | tell the next batch of people the truth directly? Many thoughts flashed across Jonathan's mind. He didn't want to let nature take its course and wanted to make a change.
Nevertheless, a thought occurred to him. What if you make a change and got stuck forever? Don't you want to leave the time loop and find out what is going on? These dead people are just part of the time loop. Why are you being soft-hearted? You've suffered previously for your kind act.
Do you want to meet your doom? oo Jonathan was in a dilemma.
Suddenly, he recalled something and raised his arm.
His watch showed that it was seven fifty-five.
Jonathan realized he had five minutes left before the new time loop begins.
Fear clawed up his throat.
This won't do. Lyle's body is still on the lifeboat. If someone discovers him, the consequences will be dire! | cannot be soft-hearted anymore. | need to find out what is going on.
He instinctively rushed to the corridor and made his way to the lifeboat.
‘When he pulled Lyle's body up, blood trickled down the body onto the corridor.
Jonathan pondered briefly and thought it was better to toss Lyle's body into the sea.
With that thought in mind, he lifted Lyle's body and threw it into the ocean
At the same time, the ocean appeared in Jonathan's sight.
The ocean was full of bodies belonging to Lyle floating above the sea as black guillemots devoured them greedily.
Jonathan could feel his soul quaking when he belatedly realized he had chosen the same path made by all his previous selves.
Will Orcus' punishment repeat itself again and again? Is there no way out? That sounds horrible. No, | won't let that happen! Gritting his teeth, Jonathan vowed, “I must stop the current time loop instead of being a puppet. Let me reveal the truth to the new batch of people.” Just as he said that, he quickly changed his mind. If you reveal the truth to them, the time loop won't end. You'll be stuck in this time loop forever. Can you bear the agony? “Enough!” A sharp glint flashed across Jonathan's eyes.
“F*ck you, Orcus! It's all your trick. You're my inner demon
who keeps instigating me!” he roared. “I won't fall for your tricks.” Jonathan took a deep breath and made up his mind.
He threw the gun into the sea without hesitance.
“I'd rather get stuck in this time loop than take the path you want me to take!” Jonathan hollered at the sky.
At the same time, he heard someone roaring.
It was a familiar voice.
“Help!” There was no wonder that Jonathan found it familiar, for he had yelled for help on the boat previously.
The time loop had started again.
Jonathan glanced at the blood trail on the deck that was made when he moved Lyle's body earlier.
That was the same blood trail he saw with Tate and the others previously.
| can't believe the same situation repeated itself.
Jonathan inhaled sharply. He promptly decided to break the rules instead of playing by them.
Awhile later, the same bunch of people arrived at the ship.
Jonathan waited at the corridor patiently.
His other self led Tate, Lyle, and Dante onto the deck.
The sun was still shining brightly at that moment.
Jonathan took a glance at his watch and realized it was eight sharp.
Another time loop has begun.
“Good morning, everyone!” Jonathan went to them and flashed a warm smile.
The rest halted in their tracks when they saw him as though
he was a ghost.
His other self was staring at him in disbelief, for they were the replica of each other.
“What on earth is going on? Who are you?” his other self asked, horrified.
Jonathan shot him a bitter smile. “It's a long story. Please be patient and listen to me.” His other self and the others nodded, for they were too eager to know what had happened.
Jonathan said, “So, this was what happened...” He explained everything about the time loop to them and brought them to where Lyle's bodies were floating on the ocean. He also led them to the deck to see Tate's and Dante's bodies.
After that, Jonathan asked, “You believe me now, right?” Everyone was standing in front of the stack of bodies.
Tate and Dante couldn't explain how strange it felt to see tons of their dead bodies in front of them.
Jonathan could finally heave a sigh of relief. After all, he had broken the rules instead of doing the same thing in the time loop.
They all walked away from the pile of dead bodies and came to the living room.
The food in the living room was rotten and couldn't be eaten.
“What should we do now?” Jonathan's other self asked.
Jonathan answered solemnly, “We can take the lifeboat and try to arrive at the coast to return to Horington.” His other self wasn't as optimistic. “I don't think that will happen.” Jonathan insisted, “But we should at least try.” His other self nodded. “Okay, then.” Tate, Dante, and Lyle didn't have any objections.
They soon got onto a lifeboat together.
After the lifeboat was lowered to the sea, they rowed toward shore.
They should be seventy nautical miles away from Horington. It might be hard to row all the way back, but the journey was still manageable.
Jonathan and his other self were powerful enough, so they rowed forcefully until the lifeboat was traveling as fast as a swordfish.
After rowing for three hours, the sea remained calm. There was no change, and no boats appeared in sight.
Suddenly, Tate blurted out, “I think the sun didn't change at all. Have you realized it? Time seemed to have stopped.” Hearing that, everyone grew wary.
At once, Jonathan and his other self raised their arms to look at their watches.
Jonathan was shocked to discover that his watch stopped ticking after they left Liberty.
His other self had the same reaction, too.
“Our efforts are futile.” Suddenly, his other self's gaze turned dark. “Time came to a stop after we left Liberty.
Even if we continue paddling for a hundred years, we will never arrive at Horington.” Jonathan agreed with his other self's words. He felt utterly helpless in the situation.
It was impossible to solve the problem with violence as he didn't even know who his enemy was.
Thus, it was useless for him to get angry.
‘Who could the enemy be? Is it my destiny, fate, or God? Jonathan finally realized that he could never break the time loop.
His other self fell into deep thought.
Tate, Dante, and Lyle were trembling in fear.
“Why are there so many dead bodies over there?” Suddenly, Lyle pointed at somewhere in the south.
Tons of bodies were floating on the ocean quietly.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThey immediately rowed their lifeboat in that direction.
The lifeboat soon got closer, allowing them to get a clearer look.
The sight before them caused them to gape incredulously.
The bodies scattered on the sea were all Tate, Dante, and Lyle.
“Why are there bodies here, too?” Jonathan was confused.
At the same time, his other self, who had been silent the entire time, took action.
The man swung out both his fists to Kill Tate and Lyle instantly.
He then lunged toward Dante.
Dante was no match for him, and he was about to succeed.
Jonathan took action in a flash and used the Dragon Claw Grab to grab his other self's wrist.
His other self shook his wrist up and down to dodge
Jonathan's attack. His other self then gave Dante a kick.
“Stop!” A gun appeared in Jonathan's hand, aiming at his other self.
Jonathan declared coldly, “I'll kill you if you dare to make a move.” His other self snorted. “What's the difference between living and dying? I'd rather die so | can experience other stuff.” Jonathan was stunned. “We are both one. | can't bear to kill my friends, but why are you so cruel? What changed your character? Or are you not me?” Something glinted across his other self's eyes before he said, “A thought appears in a flash. | had that thought, so | killed them. What can that prove? What about you? Why are you so stubborn? You should let me Kill you so you can start the time loop again.” Jonathan shook his head. “No, you're wrong!” Something feels amiss.
Suddenly, Jonathan pinned his other self with a withering
look as he demanded, “You're not me. Are you Orcus? Did you create an illusion to kill me?” Surprise flashed across his other self's eyes. He chuckled icily and replied, “You're indeed smart. Yes, you're right. I'm not you. However, you're also wrong, for | am not Orcus.” “lam!” Dante's voice rang out without warning.
Atiny whip sword suddenly stabbed into Jonathan's back without him realizing it.
He felt a chill go down his spine as pain flared up his chest.
Blood flowed down his body freely.
Jonathan let out an anguished roar as he knew he was going to die soon.
Suddenly, his other self delivered a kick that sent him tumbling into the sea.
Jonathan descended into darkness. There was a moment when he felt that he was back in his mother's womb.
It hurts! | want nothing more than to fall asleep and never ‘wake up again.
Jonathan sank into the sea and gradually lost his senses.
Roar! After what seemed like forever, Jonathan suddenly regained consciousness.
His eyes snapped open as he trembled violently.
| remember everything. | remember how | died.
“Mr. Lawson? Did you have a nightmare?” a familiar voice asked.
Jonathan peered in the direction of the voice and realized he was on a private plane.
The person talking to him was none other than Dante.
“Orcus?” Horrified, Jonathan immediately put his guard up.
Dante was baffled. “Orcus? What is that? Mr. Lawson, | don't understand what you're talking about.” “No, no!” Jonathan began sorting out his thoughts. He suddenly recalled an important question.
“Where are we now? Where are we heading?” Dante's confusion heightened as he replied, “We're flying above Horington to head to sea in search of Briana ‘Yarbrough as per your request, Mr. Lawson. Is something wrong?” Pain appeared in Jonathan's gaze. Is this another time loop? I'm going to arrive at Briana's yacht soon, and Dante's private plane will explode. Briana's yacht will then be overturned by the tsunami. Everyone will board Liberty once again, and history will repeat itself. Briana must be Orcus. Orcus isn't a person but is a form of will that can appear on anyone. Perhaps everyone besides me is Orcus! Jonathan shut his eyes and fell silent, for he knew his efforts would be in vain.
Not long after, Dante reminded him, “Mr. Lawson, the yacht is right beneath us.” Jonathan nodded. “Got it!” He leaped out of the private plane and landed on the yacht's deck.
Dante then sent him a message saying there was a
problem with the plane, so he needed to turn around.
Jonathan remained unfazed. “Sure.” The private plane flew for some distance before bursting into flames.
Jonathan didn't bother saving Dante and entered the living room.
Briana was sitting inside the living room, clad in a wedding gown.
She looked indifferent and cool.
Jonathan took a seat across from her calmly. “Why are you wearing a wedding gown? Is Orcus marrying someone? Is Orcus female?” Briana looked at him. “It looks like you've discovered many things.” Jonathan replied, “No matter how much | know, it's useless.” Briana said, “You can give up instead of continuing the struggle. That way, you'll feel better. After all, this is your
destiny.” Jonathan demanded, “Why am | here? Is my consciousness here while my body is somewhere else?” “The first time you and Dante came here, you didn't leave the plane and died in the explosion. However, your consciousness refused to believe that you're dead and continued doing those stuff. You're already dead,” came Briana's answer.
Jonathan snickered icily. “That isn't funny at all. If I'm dead, you don't have to go this far. You went this far so | will think it's my destiny and stop struggling. If | believe I'm dead, | might die for real. It's similar to Gabriel's Curb of Kismet.
Do you think I will give up easily? Don't underestimate me.”
