After that, Beatrix added, “You said that frost only appeared on the woman's hand after shaking yours, but I'm not really convinced.” Jonathan immediately replied, “It is true. | wanted to ask if you have ever encountered such a strange thing.” “I have not,” she replied.
Jonathan was a little disappointed when he heard that.
“Then, it seems you like don't know what's going on either, Beatrix.” Beatrix replied coldly, “I'm not omnipotent, so | won't know everything.” She paused for a moment before continuing, “You said that the frost only appears on her hand when she touches yours but not when she touches others, right?” “Yes.” “And you suspect that there is some kind of mysterious connection between yourself and her, which is why the frost appears on her hand when she touches you, right?” “Yes, that's right,” Jonathan replied. It was impossible to not
follow that train of thought.
“That's very childish thinking.” Jonathan nearly popped a vein in anger upon hearing that.
“You should think about what makes you different from a normal person. You're a powerful spiritual fighter, and your vitality is very strong. Perhaps that woman has an unusual constitution, and it caused a reaction when she came into contact with you. In other words, it's not that you're special but every powerful spiritual fighter who touches that woman's hand would get the same reaction.” Jonathan was slightly stunned, but he had to admit that Beatrix's words made a lot of sense. In fact, that was the best explanation for what had happened.
It was really childish of me to think of it as a connection from our past lives! “Why does she have such a constitution?” Jonathan asked.
“I don't know.” Beatrix paused before continuing, “The world is never short of curiosities, so this isn't really that surprising. Moreover, some people are born with a higher
mental capacity than others and mana. Some carry ‘someone else's memories when they are born; in other words, they were reincarnated. But is that really reincarnation? It's just that their thoughts have merged with a newborn after their death.” Jonathan agreed wholeheartedly with what she said. At least he knew that Gabriel was born with innately strong spiritual energy. Gabriel's mind was not strong like Divine Master's because he developed it at a later stage. It was because his mind was already naturally much stronger than an ordinary person's.
Beatrix piped up again, “The world is vast and always evolving with time. There is nothing in this universe that is strange, no matter how extraordinary or astonishing it is.” “That makes sense,” Jonathan voiced his agreement.
“If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now,” Beatrix said.
Jonathan chuckled. “I'll bring you a gift when | get to Lostaria, Beatrix.”
“lI don't need one!” With that, she ended the call.
Jonathan put away his phone with a small smile on his face.
He was used to her antics anyway.
After speaking to her, he was no longer feeling troubled about Joanne.
No matter what she was like or what kind of secrets she was harboring, it was her privacy. There was no need for him to get to the bottom of it.
With that thought, Jonathan merrily dug into the plate of spaghetti bolognese. After that, he called a cab and headed toward Victor's location.
Willowbank was truly an extraordinary place. Falcon Corporation was very influential in Willowbank and could be considered the top corporation in the city.
However, Victor was the richest man in the city. How was he able to accomplish that? It was simple for he owned a real estate company.
Victor seemed to have copied the business model of a very successful developer. He developed some clubs, mansions, and plots of auspicious land in geomancy terms.
He always targeted the wealthy.
That was a rather unique approach.
However, Victory Enterprise had established its business empire and others were unable to imitate it.
Half an hour later, Jonathan arrived at Victory Enterprise.
He stood in front of the towering building under the sunlight.
At that moment, a gust of cold wind blew past him.
The warm sunlight and the cold wind were strangely harmonious.
Jonathan was dressed coolly in a black leather jacket and a pair of sunglasses.
He didn't have Victor's phone number, so he could only contact him this way.
As soon as he entered the building, two security guards stepped forward and blocked him.
“May | know who you are and who you are looking for?” one of the security guards asked.
Jonathan smiled politely and said, “I'm here to see Victor, the Chairman. | have an appointment with him.” He swept his gaze over the two security guards and added, “Well, it's not really an appointment. He was the one who invited me over.” The two security guards were dumbfounded, unsure whether to believe him or not.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Are you going to keep blocking my path?” Jonathan's temper instantly flared. “Do you know who my father is? He is the chief of this city's police station. If you get on my bad side, I'll turn Victory Enterprise into Loser Enterprise.” His ability to lie was second to none, and he always did it in a serious manner.
He was particularly good at putting on an act.
Seeing how confident he was, the security guards became somewhat convinced.
It was mainly due to Jonathan's assertiveness when he spoke. Moreover, he behaved with the arrogance of a spoilt son of a government official.
Suddenly, a young woman's voice rang out. “Hmph! That was really arrogant!” The security guards directed their gaze behind Jonathan and immediately greeted her, “Ms. Briana!” A sense of dread filled Jonathan. He tuned around and ‘saw a beautiful woman dressed in a red coat with an angry expression on her face.
The woman appeared to be around twenty-two years old and carried herself with an air of nobility. She wore simple and light makeup, which accentuated her beauty.
The woman was tall and slender, and she was even a little taller than Jonathan.
Judging from her demeanor and what the security guards had called her, he immediately guessed her identity. She was none other than his target, Briana Yarbrough!
Two mean-looking bodyguards dressed in black trailed behind her.
“Briana!” Jonathan immediately broke into a smile and called out to her.
Briana simply stared at him coldly. She truly disliked him quite a bit. But that was not unexpected, because firstly, she felt that Jonathan was a scammer and a liar. Secondly, he dared to say that he would turn Victory Enterprise into Loser Enterprise. That was absolutely infuriating! Thirdly, he was extremely arrogant and had no class.
“Do you think a low-life hooligan like you is allowed to call me that?” she spat coldly.
Jonathan laughed dryly. “Well, I'm no low-life hooligan.
Even if | were, | would be a powerful one!” Briana looked at him with a frosty gaze and did not entertain his childish humor. “I heard you say earlier that your dad is the chief at the police station.” Briana was cautious and worried that he really was the chief's son as that would cause problems for her father.
Hence, to err on the safe side, she decided to clarify with him.
“That's right,” Jonathan replied.
“Alright. What is Chief Holmes' full name?” Jonathan was extremely sharp-witted and had noticed the glint that flashed across Briana's eyes. That was how he knew her question was a trap.
Most people would ask what the chief's name was or what their surname was.
However, Briana asked what Chief Holmes' full name was.
Therefore, it was highly likely that the chief's surname was not Holmes. It was just to trick Jonathan into exposing himself.
“I don't know who Chief Holmes is. My dad's surname isn't Holmes!” he answered.
Of course, it isn't. My dad's surname is Lawson! Briana was slightly stunned at the fact that he didn't fall for her trick.
However, she still didn't believe that he was the chief's son.
Perhaps he had learned what the chief's name was from the news.
“In that case, what is your dad's name?” Jonathan chuckled and said, “Alright, I'l tell the truth, Briana. My dad isn't the chief at the police station. | was just kidding.” Briana was startled for a moment. Then, her face turned red with anger.
She turned to the two guards standing behind her and said, “Kick this lunatic out immediately.” “Wait!” Jonathan hurriedly interjected. “I'll confess, Briana.
My dad and your father are close friends, and we have been betrothed to each other at birth. I'm here to ask for your hand in marriage. If you don't believe me, you can check with your father.” Briana instantly flew into a rage. This guy has no shame! He's clearly trying to take advantage of me!
“Kick him out now!” she ordered the two bodyguards.
There was a menacing air around the bodyguards and the sunglasses they wore strengthened that aura. They immediately stormed over to Jonathan aggressively.
They reached for him, ready to throw him out of the building.
Jonathan backed away and yelled, “Hey, hey, hey! We're all civilized people, aren't we? Why are you getting physical? Misters, we can talk this out. Hey, are you really going to throw me out?” Jonathan kicked and punched the bodyguards, sending them crashing into the ground. He sat on one of them and put his foot on the other. “Do you yield?” Briana was shocked. She never expected Jonathan to be such a powerful fighter! “You two!” She turned toward the security guards and shouted, “Quick! Get back up and call the police!” “No, don't do that!” Jonathan immediately stood up and
smiled sheepishly at Briana. “Please let me see our dad, Briana! He'll determine once and for all if | was lying or not.” She did not relent as she was scared that he would harm her father. Then, she took several steps back and said, “Wait there. I'll call my father now.” The call went through in no time.
“Briana, can | talk to him first?” Jonathan asked.
She glanced at him before speaking into the phone, “That lunatic wants to talk to you.” Victor also couldn't wrap his head around the situation.
Despite that, he acquiesced. “Give him the phone, and let's see what he says.” Briana nodded and handed the phone to Jonathan with a disgusted expression on her face.
Jonathan let out a chuckle as he took the phone from her.
Then, he turned away from Briana and whispered, “Divine Realm.”
As soon as Victor heard those words, he instantly understood what was going on.
After that, Jonathan spoke loudly, “Mr. Yarbrough, is the marriage that you and my dad decided on back then still valid? You are a very wealthy man now, but you wouldn't forget about us, right? | hope you are not that heartless!”
Briana was startled upon hearing that. What kind of weirdo is he? Did he just call us heartless? What an unscrupulous man! Briana was already feeling frustrated.
All the while, Victor smiled in resignation after hearing that.
Why did Divine Realm send such a clown over? However, Victor was still feeling hopeful. Both the men dispatched by Divine Realm before that were too rigid and stern, so their attempts had failed. Jonathan seemed rather quirky, so he figured that there might be an unexpected outcome.
Thus, he said, “Pass the phone to Briana.” “Oh, okay!” Jonathan handed the phone over to Briana after that.
“Dad, don't tell me | am actually in an arranged marriage with him,” Briana blurted out.
Victor ignored her and said, “Bring him upstairs.” Although Briana had a bad premonition, she couldn't say
anything to her father at that point, so she complied with him. “Okay.” She glowered at Jonathan after hanging up.
Jonathan chuckled and quipped, “What is it, Briana? Do you see me in a new light now?” Unlike Jessica, Briana wouldn't bicker with him flirtatiously.
She merely glanced at him impassively before entering the building.
Jonathan followed behind her.
Just as the two security guards tried to stop him, he glared at them before declaring, “How dare you stop me? Don't you know I'm the future heir of Victory Enterprise?” Both of the security guards were dumbfounded.
At the same time, Briana roared at Jonathan, “You are a madman!” With that, she covered her ears and ran inside.
Jonathan ran after her.
Seeing that Briana didn't order them to stop Jonathan, the two security guards let him pass.
Jonathan followed behind Briana, entering the elevator.
“Briana...” The moment Jonathan tried to strike up a conversation, Briana covered her ears.
He heaved a sigh. “Geez, young people nowadays are really impetuous.” His sarcastic remark left Briana feeling conflicted.
Victor's office was located on the twenty-eighth floor.
Prominent people like him somehow had a preference to set up their offices on the highest floor of buildings.
Upon arriving at the twenty-eighth floor, Briana led Jonathan to Victor's office.
She entered the office upon opening the door, and Jonathan followed suit.
The office was magnificent, its interior decor giving off a quaint and elegant vibe.
There was a desk made of red sandalwood, and a couch made of real leather, among other furniture.
Although Victor was close to his sixties, he was still full of energy. He looked regal and refined in his black suit. One could tell that he was someone very successful.
Moreover, he was fit and had thick hair.
He wore golden-rimmed glasses, and he also wore a wristwatch.
When they arrived, he was going through the quarterly finance reports at his desk.
The instant Briana barged in and got beside him, she demanded, “Dad, this is the madman I'm talking about! Chase him away!” Jonathan couldn't help but feel annoyed. D*mn it. Isn't she a little too uncultured? She kept on calling me a madman or a lunatic.
Despite his bizarre actions, Jonathan was actually incredibly perceptive.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHe already had an idea as to the cause of Victor's
predicament.
Victor had his daughter in his forties, so he doted on her.
Thus, Briana ended up becoming quite spoiled.
Victor smiled in resignation before chiding her, “Speak more kindly, Briana.” He then looked at Jonathan with joy. “You're here, young man. Please have a seat.” He stood as he spoke.
Jonathan chirped merrily, “Mr. Yarbrough, your office looks so grand. My dad used to brag to me about the time he spent flirting with girls in Yaleview with you.” Victor was startled, and there was an awkward expression on his face. Unable to counter that, he laughed. “Have a seat!” As they conversed, Victor and Briana sat down on the couch regarded as the main seat, whereas Jonathan sat on the guest's seat.
Victor had his secretary serve them some refreshments right away.
After that, he asked Jonathan, “How has your father been?” He cringed at his own words, for he didn't even know Jonathan's name.
Right away, Jonathan put on a melancholic expression as he lamented, “My father has passed away, Mr. Yarbrough.” He then tried to shed a few tears. Yet, he didn't have any, so he gave up on it eventually. He proceeded to bemoan, “My dad told me before he died that | must come to you. He described you as a just, honest, and true man. So, you will allow me to marry Briana, right?” Initially, Briana was infuriated, but she felt like laughing when she heard Jonathan's words.
This guy is really something else.
Upon hearing, Victor felt slightly embarrassed.
“I will never marry someone like him.” Briana shot up from her seat and rejected the idea firmly. She then snarked at Jonathan, “The likes of you shouldn't even think about marrying me. You should go take a look at yourself in a mirror"
“Been there, done that, and | think | look amazing!” “You-" Briana almost vomited blood.
Victor smiled bitterly before smoothing things over. “Young man, both Briana and | need time to think about this, especially when you brought up the matter so abruptly.” Jonathan replied, “Oh, I'm not in a hurry. Besides, I'm homeless and unemployed. Mr. Yarbrough, my dad said | should regard you as my own father and familiarize myself with you! Since you have such a large company and are so wealthy, you should hire me as a manager. | could use some fun.” “You bloody leech!” cried Briana, no longer able to stand Jonathan and his shenanigans.
“I have teeth though!” Jonathan opened his mouth in all seriousness to reveal his two rows of healthy and normal- looking teeth.
“Dad, don't waste time on scum like him! Get the security guards to chase him out!” Briana demanded.
Victor cleared his throat, figuring that it was time he showed his dignified side in front of an outsider. Thus, he said, “Briana, no matter what, this young man is the son of an acquaintance of mine. How could you be so impolite to him? What might others think if they see you like this?” “It'll reflect badly on your parents!” Jonathan added, always keen to add salt to injury.
“Shut up!” chided Briana at Jonathan.
Jonathan let out a chuckle.
Victor saw no point in continuing the conversation, so he ordered in a rather stern tone, “Briana, give us some space.” Briana refused to comply. “I'm not leaving. You-" “Leave now!” Victor sounded rather cold.
He rarely lost his temper with Briana like that.
It was also the first time Briana ever saw his stern side, so she was so shocked that her face was as pale as a sheet.
“Okay, okay, I'll leave,” she muttered and she really left.
After her departure, Victor smiled ruefully at Jonathan. “I've spoiled the kid. Please pay her no heed.” Jonathan had also reverted to a brooding mood as he turned to face Victor. “I can understand that.” After a pause, he continued, “Of course, you're going to dote on your only daughter when you have amassed such wealth. However, you cannot protect her forever, and her personality poses a huge problem. The wealthier she is, the more dangerous a position she is in. After all, it never was about the person, but what was in their possession.” Victor studied him in surprise, thinking that Jonathan seemed to have become an entirely different person.
“May | have your name, young man?” he inquired.
Jonathan supplied, “My name is Jonathan Lawson.” “Ah, so you're Jon.” He sounded courteous and was without arrogance.
After all, Jonathan was one of the inner disciples of Divine Realm, and no one was to give them an attitude of any sort.
“Let's talk!” Jonathan said.
Victor probed, “Jon, do you have any ways to go about this task that you're about to take on?” Jonathan explained, “I've never met Sean, so | can only ‘come up with a concrete plan once I've met him.” Then, he requested, “By the way, you have to insist that | am Briana's fiancé no matter how she retaliates. Don't you worry for | will reassure her safety. While Sean seemed to be the source of your troubles, you're actually the one causing them in the first place. | won't be able to do anything for you if you lack the resolve to maintain a firm stance on the matter.” Victor hesitated for a moment before agreeing to it. “Sure, no problem!” Jonathan consoled, “Things aren't as bad as it seems. At least the two of them have yet to make any substantial moves.” Victor was startled, already catching on to what Jonathan
was implying. That was something he had been worrying about, so Jonathan's reassurance offered him much solace.
He inquired, “Are you sure?” Jonathan chuckled. “Briana is still a virgin.” He paused for a bit before going on. “Okay, from now on, you will no longer arrange for Briana to be protected by bodyguards. | shall assume that position.” Delighted, Victor gave his consent. “I have nothing to worry about with you acting as her bodyguard.” Then, he summoned Briana back in.
In her presence, he announced formally, “Briana, | have to tell you something that I've been meaning to but unable to tell you. Jonathan's father, who is also an acquaintance of mine, has passed away, and his final wish is for Jonathan to marry you. While | can dote on you and spoil you when it comes to other matters, you're still my daughter, and you have to obey me regarding this matter.” ‘When Briana noticed that her father wasn't joking around,
she teared up and flew into a fit of rage. “That's a promise between you! What does it have to do with me? Why must | be sacrificed for this? Dad, have you ever put yourself in my shoes?” Victor couldn't bear to see her cry, but he steeled himself.
“This is already set in stone.” “I will never agree to marry this guy. Over my dead body!" Briana yelled and ran away in tears.
“Briana!” Victor called out to her.
However, she ignored him and fled the place.
Jonathan reassured Victor, “Don't worry. I'll watch over her, Mr. Yarbrough.” ‘With that, he went after her.
