Chapter 221

“Thanks, Mr. Levert, but I’ll have to go now. We’ll talk later.” Angeline tried her best to muster a polite smile.

“Sure thing.” Zeferino nodded, apology twinkling in his eyes. He put his glass down and saw Angeline off.

Jealous, Siobhan held Zeferino’s arm and yanked him over. “Stop looking at her, Zefe. She’s a slut. Why would you

ever work with her?”

Zeferino shot Siobhan an icy glare. Icily, he responded, “Shut it.” For far too long, Siobhan had tested his patience.

“Our families might be friends, but you’re just a sister to me. That’s all. If you’re going to act like a brat around my

guest, then I will not invite you to any events from here on out.”

Zeferino left Siobhan without saying another word.

“Zefe!” Siobhan stared at him in disbelief, but he wouldn’t come back. And so, she paced around angrily. She

would’ve screamed if she could, but there were people around.

Suddenly, a woman said, “Calm down, Ms. Yiurk. Anger won’t do you well.” The woman was in a red low-cut dress,

and she paired it up with some stilettos.

Siobhan shot her a look of disdain. “And who are you?”

“It doesn’t matter who I am.” Denise snapped her fingers. A waiter came to her service, and she took a glass of

wine from his tray. Then she swirled it around. “What matters is we have a common enemy. You don’t like Angeline,

do you?”

Siobhan stared at Denise intently. “What are you trying to say?”

“Just that I don’t like her either. We used to work in the same company. I was more famous than her, but then she

hooked up with Evander and destroyed my future.” Denise gnashed her teeth and downed the wine in one go.

The hatred swirling within Denise was almost palpable. Siobhan felt it, and she frowned. Doubtfully, she said, “Yeah,

right. Angeline’s annoying, but Evander’s downright evil and uncaring. He doesn’t even care for the Sherrock

Group’s heiress. As if he’s going to care about Angeline.”

“Hey, you just called her a slut, remember? And sluts are great at toying with men. If she can play your cousin like a

fiddle, what’s stopping her from doing the same with Evander?”

“You do have a point.” Siobhan sneered. “She’d do anything to get what she wants.”

Denise looked around her cautiously. The coast is clear. She said, “So you gotta be on guard. She’s getting along

swimmingly with Zeferino. Not trying to insinuate anything, but…”

There was no need for her to finish the sentence. Siobhan got the implication, and her face fell. “Shut it. Zefe’s not

that kind of guy.”

Oh, she fell for it. A subtle sparkle of smugness shone in Denise’s eyes. Feigning concern, she said, “All the more

reason to be on guard, so…”

That finally made Siobhan waver. “All right, enough. Just tell me what you’re getting at.”

Little did Angeline know, she was about to get herself into trouble soon. At the moment, she was receiving

interviews from the reporters, talking about the new product and some other miscellaneous topics. All of the

questions were expected, and she answered them easily.

Moistdore Cosmetics’ photographer took a few more photos of her for the Twitter post. He looked at the pictures

and praised, “You pass the vibe check, Ms. Sorelle. Looks Instagramable even without any Photoshop. Oh, we just

got a call from the host. Five minutes in, and preorders are already sold out.”

“Really?” The news delighted Angeline. “That’s great news. And I thought I’d be dragging them down.”

“You’re being modest, Ms. Sorelle. You underestimate yourself.” The photographer smiled dryly and made small

talk. “You do what you have to do. I need to meet up with the other guys.”

“Sure.”

They went their separate ways. Angeline had nothing to do after work, so she wanted to leave. But before that,

restroom. Much to her chagrin, she ran into the one person she never wanted to—Denise.

The latter was standing before the mirror, reapplying her makeup. When Angeline came in, Denise gave her a

cryptic smile. “Been a while.”

“Mm-hm.” But Angeline said no more. She turned the faucet on and washed her hands. She wouldn’t say hi to me

out of nowhere. Something’s up.

But Angeline had no intention of finding out what Denise was plotting. There was nothing to talk about. Angeline

pulled some tissues out to wipe her hands dry. Then she tossed them in the trash and tried to leave, but Denise

gasped in pain and fell in her direction.

“What are you doing?”

Angeline turned around instinctively and tried to hold Denise up, but she wouldn’t let go. Like a koala, she hugged

Angeline tightly as if she was a eucalyptus tree. Also, she squeezed Angeline’s bag as hard as she could.

“What’s wrong with you?” Angeline pulled an arm out and shoved Denise off, her gaze filled with disdain and

impatience.

Denise chortled mysteriously as she straightened her dress out. Calmly, she said, “Sorry.” And then she left the

restroom.

Angeline stared at the leaving Denise, feeling frustrated. What on earth is she trying to do? She hates my guts. So

why did she hold me so tightly? What is she up to this time?

Angeline had a lot of questions, but she didn’t care. She straightened herself up and left the restroom. The event

was already wrapping up, and there was barely anyone around. Time to leave.

But just then, a shrill scream echoed through the air. It came from the stage.

“My necklace! It’s gone! Someone took it!”

The sudden shout gained everyone’s attention, including Angeline’s. She turned around to check things out, only to

see that the one who shouted was none other than Siobhan.

Siobhan looked anxious, and she shouted a few more times. Then her bodyguard came.

The guests were riled up, excited at the prospect of a little drama unfolding within these walls.
