Chapter 708
The girl was taken aback for a moment.
Then she straightened up.
She offered a “Thank you” in her broken English.
Her eyes never left Kearney’s face, her interest was apparent and intense.
The maids and servants following her caught up, their worry for her evident on their faces.
Agnes pondered for a moment.
She had a hunch about the girl’s identity.
She was probably Bella, Count Alexandra’s only daughter.
They were all here for Bella’s coming–of–age soiree.
The maids were trying to talk to Bella, but her attention was on Kearney.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe was speaking to him in her broken English.
Kearney remained his usual gentle, humble self.
He tried to leave, but Bella kept him engaged.
Bella was lively and playful, like the morning sun.
Kearney, although always wore a faint smile, was reserved and aloof.
Agnes was surprised to see Kearney furrow his brows at a girl for the first time.
If it were anyone else, Kearney would have excused himself. 1
But Bella was of noble descent, he couldn’t risk offending her.
Agnes could tell that Kearney was stuck for the time being.
So, she turned to the buffet for some food.
Agnes grabbed a pastry and took a few bites.
Even in that small break, a few men approached her for a dance.
Of course, she declined them all.
Agnes wanted to find a quiet place before the party started.
She spotted a glass door leading to a pool garden.
A few guests were strolling around with champagne flutes in hand.
Agnes decided to step outside.
Her high heels were causing her discomfort.
After a few steps, Agnes felt her ankles ache.
She decided to sit on the marble steps.
“Wearing shoes that don’t fit only leads to blisters,” came a cold voice from behind Agnes.
Agnes stiffened, knowing that it was Jared.
She stood up, turned around and smiled, “Shoes only cause blisters because they’re new. If you wear them often,
they’ll fit just fine, don’t you think?”

He wasn’t talking about shoes, but her presence in such an event.
Because it was not suitable for her, it would only lead to discomfort.
But was he suitable to attend with a beautiful woman?
Jared’s eyes landed on Agnes.
To be honest, Agnes looked stunning.
Her fiery red gown was dazzling, and her figure was exquisite. Her make–up was immaculate, and she combined
coolness and passion in a perfect blend.
She was like a rose blooming on a glacier.
At first glance, Jared almost didn’t recognize her.
He was simply captivated by her beauty,
Jared didn’t respond to Agnes‘ remark but asked, “What are you doing here?”
“Whatever reason you’re here for, that’s my reason too.”
Agnes unconsciously touched her bracelet, “But if I knew you’d be here today, I probably wouldn’t have come.”
