Chapter 1405 Is He Your Boss?
After seeing off her uncle, Beryl just pulled up a chair and sat by her father's bedside when Wallis, busy with
paperwork, happened to come back.
She looked over and greeted obediently, "Mom."
"You're here." Wallis collected the various paper documents in her hands and put them into her bag. "Your father
was uncomfortable last night. He didn't sleep much. Fortunately, it's a private room;
otherwise, he would have been more restless."
Listening, Beryl felt deeply distressed; at Amir's age, he couldn't withstand such suffering.
Wallis looked at her daughter's expression, seeing no signs of suspicion, and walked over, asking in a low voice,

yesterday use his connections to help arrange it for us?"
The Juliet family had no relatives or friends in Jewel City, and the only person who had come after Amir's accident
was Marcellus.
Caught off guard, Beryl felt a little uneasy but still chose to conceal the truth. "Mom, he just happened to have a
friend working at this hospital."
"I don't think he looks like a student or an ordinary citizen. What does he do for a living?" Wallis probed, still
concerned about her daughter.
This question caught Beryl off guard. She knew her family would ask about Marcellus, but she didn't expect it to
happen so suddenly.
For a moment, she stumbled in her response, "He... He has a regular job. I used to work in his company, so we
know each other a bit. Maybe he thought my situation was urgent, so he helped me. He's a caring person."
Speaking of "caring," Beryl felt guilty herself and involuntarily lowered her voice, knowing very well that Marcellus,
with his personality, was far from being caring.
His coldness was scarier than anyone else's.
But Wallis found it even more strange after listening, "So, is he your boss?"
Beryl Juliet felt her heart skip a beat. "Not anymore."
"Is it common for bosses to be so generous to their subordinates? This isn't just a few thousand dollars; it's over a
hundred thousand dollars. Beryl, did you..." Wallis stopped midway, finding it difficult to ask when facing her
daughter.
Beryl quickly clarified, "Mom, don't overthink. I have to repay him, and I promised to give him an IOU." Hearing that
she intended to repay the money, Wallis's expression finally eased a bit. "What did he say? Any time limits?"

"He is wealthy. He said I could repay according to my own ability."
Wallis looked at her daughter's smooth face. Since Beryl was little, she had been the most trouble-free child in the
family, never causing them any worry. Even after going to college, she never asked them for money.
Wallis had never worried about her daughter, as she knew Beryl's character very well. From a young age, Beryl had
been extremely obedient and well-behaved, never doing anything that would be hard to accept. And that hadn't
changed now.
Though there were some doubts in her heart, as a mother, she understood her daughter well and trusted Beryl not
to do anything reckless.
"Regardless of what your boss says, we need to repay the money quickly. Once your father recovers, I'll try to
contribute and see if we can repay part of it first."
