Chapter 77

Late at night.

Sitting comfortably in first class, Sylvia, as bright as a button despite the hour, savored her coffee.

She peered out the window, but the ink-dipped darkness of the night made it impossible to discern even

the contours of the clouds.

With a waning interest, Sylvia was about to withdraw her gaze when a familiar silhouette caught her eye

in the window's reflection.

The figure wore sunglasses, briefly making eye contact before dodging her gaze.

Her defenses rose as she took a covert sweep of her surroundings, only to find that her bodyguards had, at some

point, slipped into slumber, as had the rest of the passengers.

A whiff of danger tingled her senses.

Rising to investigate the other cabins, she found herself facing a well-suited man and his entourage, all

well-built and closing in on her.

The man in question was none other than Mr. Sunglasses himself.

It seemed that their intentions were very clear. It was obvious that they were targeting her.

Sylvia simply stood still.

If evasion was out of the question, it was better to fight head-on.

“Miss Lancelot, long tno see,” the man removed his sunglasses, flashing a grin. “You probably didn’t expect

us to meet again so soon.”

“It's you?”

Sylvia's brow furrowed.

The man, Tim, motioned to his followers who quickly swarmed Sylvia.

“Rumor has it Miss Lancelot is quite the hand at ju-jitsu, but | advise you to behave yourself. This plane’s under

my thumb, and if you so much as twitch, | won't think twice about going down in flames, causing an air disaster.

I'm sure you don’t want these passengers to bite the dust because of you.”

His grin wiped off, he settled in his seat, casting an indifferent gaze upon her.

“Sorry, but it's a command from Mr. Fallen.”

“Edgar?” Sylvia grimaced, her demeanor turning frosty. “He'd actually send you to do such a thing?”

“As I've said before,” Tim continued, “The vile deeds you committed against Miss Mellis, Mr. Fallen’s betrothed,

won't go unpunished. This is the piper you have to pay.”

Weighing a military knife in his hand, Tim cautioned, “Avoid futile resistance. All lives aboard are now in my palm,

unless you truly wish to lead this band of innocents into the jaws of death.”

Sylvia scoffed, eyes darting around to plot an escape route.

“Didn’t expect him to be so cutthroat. Clearly, Nancy is his apple of the eye.

Sylvia sneered. As she spoke, she stealthily stretched out her foot, fishing out a parachute bag from under

her seat.

Tim didn’t notice her action. Seeing her as cool as a cucumber, his brow furrowed, and he barked, “Don’t try to

pull a fast one, or you won't be the only one meeting your maker on this plane. Try it if you dare.”

The beefy goons behind him quickly took the other passengers hostage, their eyes flashing a deadly

warning.

Sylvia, a smirk playing on her lips, grabbed the scalding hot cup of coffee from her seat and lobbed it at

Tim.

“It’s not up to you to decide how I play my cards,” she retorted.

As all eyes were on the flying coffee cup, she kicked open the cabin door and slung the parachute bag onto her

back as fast as greased lightning. Then, without a second thought, she took a leap of faith into

the pitch-black night.

“Quick! Stop her! Don’t let her take the leap!”

But it was too late by the tTim realized what she was up to.

He rushed to the cabin door, peering out into the night.

The sky was a canvas of twinkling stars, no sign of Sylvia to be seen.

Meanwhile, Sylvia was free-falling into the inky abyss, the howling wind filling her ears.

Holding her breath, she popped open the parachute purely instinctively.

Tim and his goons still lingered at the cabin door, staring into the darkness. The night was so dark, he couldn't

make heads or tails of their altitude.

“Rest easy, Falling from such a height without any protection, she’s a goner. She’ll be nothing more than a smear

on the pavement, we probably won't even find a body,” one of the goons reassured.

Tim let out a sigh of relief at the thug’s words. Indeed, one way or another, he had completed the task Nancy

had entrusted him with.

“Miss Mellis, are you asleep?” he murmured into his bluetooth earpiece.

Earlier, under the guise of Edgar, he had secretly lifted the phone surveillance on Nancy, granting her freedom to

communicate,

“How could | sleep without hearing from you? How's the task | gave you coming along?” Nancy, from her hospital

bed, sounded anxious,

“Rest assured, it's done,” Tim replied hesitantly.

“What do you mean ‘it’s done?”

Nancy's voice rose an octave, “Did you mess up? Is she not dead?”

“She jumped from the plane with no safety measures. From this height, she’s as good as dead.”

A wave of relief washed over Nancy. “Well done, Tim. | really owe you one,” she said, satisfied.

After hanging up, she let out a triumphant laugh.

No matter how crafty this bitch was, she still lost to her in the end! She was the last one standing!

However, even though knocking off Sylvia was a shot in the arm, she hadn't lost sight of the loose cannon,

Hedda.

Nancy knew just how head over heels Patric was for Sylvia. She was wary of him, even more scared that if Patric

got wind of Sylvia's demise, he’d fly off the handle and use Hedda to settle scores.

With these thoughts, Nancy's face clouded over again. She picked up her cell phone and dialed another

number.

“Is the deed done?”

On the other side of the line, Sarah was chomping at the bit to know.

“That bitch was forced to take a leap of faith. You can just sit tight for the death notice.”

Nancy was as proud as a peacock and queried, “What's the scoop on your end? Have you traced down Hedda?”

“No. My guys have been turning over every rock for a while now, but still no sign of her.”

Sarah had combed through every nook and cranny of Frant City without a sniff of any news regarding Hedda. It

was as if she'd vanished into thin air.

Nancy hung up, her peace of mind shattered, her joy turning into a flash in the pan.

Although she'd kicked Sylvia, a thorn in her side, to the curb, Hedda was still a tough nut to crack

Keeping Hedda around was nothing but a ticking tbomb.

But if it really was Sylvia who took her away, where on earth would she stash her?

Are there places in Frant City where even Sarah couldn't sniff her out?

Ever since Sylvia divorced, she had been too close for comfort with Patric. Could it be...

A light bulb went off in Nancy's head, she picked up the phone to dial Sarah yet again.

“Can’t you spit it out all at once?”

As soon as she was about to fall asleep, Sarah, having been robbed of her sweet dreams, bit back her anger and

refrained from giving her a piece of her mind, “Spill it, what's the emergency this time?”

“As Patric’s bride-to-be, you ought to know his digs in Frant City, right?”

“Of course.”

“First thing tomorrow, take your guys and snoop around Patric’s villa. | have a hunch Hedda might be holed up

there!”
