Maja felt a sudden pang of heartache. Lately, she'd been more tired than usual, probably due to the pregnancy. The first trimester had her on the go non-stop, so the fatigue was hitting her hard now. She rarely had the energy to think about anything else.
She nodded, opened her mouth as if to say something, but in the end, she just handed a plate of fruit to the doctor in charge. Meanwhile, Tyler had been wandering around the house when he spotted Felix, donned in an apron, looking like he was straight out of a cooking show.
It was as if Tyler had stumbled upon a goldmine. He whipped out his phone and strutted over to Felix.
"Check this out, guys," Tyler began, filming with his phone. "You'll never believe who's slinging hash at Greenfield Gardens-none other than the Felix Brown, the sdude who's been on a corporate takeover spree. I must be hallucinating, or maybe it's just lan's charm. I mean, Felix doesn't just cook for anybody, right?" Tyler loved stirring the pot and kept narrating to his phone, "Get a good look, folks. That's the real Felix. If I'm lying, I'm dying. He's here, playing chef. Who knows, maybe he's trying to swap strade secrets with lan." "Swear to God, no Photoshop!" Felix, gripping a spoon tightly, felt his face heat up in anger.
"Beat it," he spat out.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTyler didn't miss a beat and took a couple of selfies, one flashing a peace sign, and immediately posted one to Facebook.
"New chef at Greenfield Gardens looks a lot like Mr. Brown, don't you think?" Comments on the post piled up quickly.
"No way, that's gotta be fake." "He just did a three-minute live stream, it's legit." "Tyler's got guts. He's asking for retaliation." When Tyler returned to the living room, several people were eyeing him with curiosity.
Oblivious, he nudged lan with his shoulder and said, "lan, I don't take my hat off to many, but you, sir, have my utmost respect." lan's mouth twitched as he looked over at Carol.
Carol was feeling uncomfortable, not that she had any love for Felix, but she didn't enjoy seeing anyone made fun of like this.
She checked her phone and immediately saw Tyler's Facebook post. A surge of annoyance welled~~ up inside her, but then she remembered she'd had her fair share of embarrassing moments in this crowd. She quickly dropped her phone. The meal took three hours to prepare, and when everyone finally gathered around the table, Felix removed his apron and sat next to Carol. Sof the dishes were his handiwork; others were prepared by the chef.
He thought for a moment and served Carol a piece of the chef's creation.
Carol, feeling awkward and assuming it was Felix's cooking, took a bite and managed to utter two words.
"Disgusting." The nearby chef, overhearing the comment, shot up in distress.
"Ms. Miller, I'll do better next time," he promised, anxiety written all over his face.
Carol, feeling as though she'd been caught with her hand in the cookie jar, forced a sheepish smile, "No, I wasn't talking about your dish." The chef exhaled in relief and continued serving up the meal.
Felix, sitting beside her, cracked a slight smile and served her another piece. Not wanting to repeat the earlier faux pas, Carol pinched her nose and ate it, though it did nothing to quell her inner irritation. After the meal, everyone showered Maja with well-wishes, talking of twins and double bundles of joy.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmMaja chatted with a few folks from Star Movie group but eventually couldn't hold back her curiosity and turned to the silent Abner beside her.
"Hey, Abner, how are things going with Shirley?" she asked.
Shirley had been invited too, but she was out of town on a training course.
At the mention of Shirley, lan couldn't resist making snide remarks.
"What's to say? I heard he tried to play Santa Claus, but Shirley wasn't home. Ended up running into her folks and got an earful," lan said with a smirk.
lan was on top of the world-his wife was about to give birth, his career was thriving, and here he was, gloating over the lovelorn losers in the room.
"Maja, you should've seen it. Her parents slammed the door in his face, told him to get lost. Apparently, they're still sore about him messing up Shirley's previous relationship. Word is Abner just stood there, not saying a word in his defense." "I'm telling you." Abner, usually so composed, was fuming and looked ready to step outside with lan to settle the score.
